Found a profile on Spotify that steals tracks

That’s just crazy! Such a system is doomed to be abused.

Downloaded our music and slowed it down

Unbelievable… I thought once you register a track with Content ID nobody else can do this… But this means we all have to create “test youtube channels” now and try to upload all our music there and see what will happen to every exact track. But it seems to be a really huge amount of work to do

Yeah, it’s weird. I don’t really have a YT channel but I did uploaded a handful of tracks years ago. A few of them have +5k views, show ads (which I don’t monetize) and never received a claim…

Yep, unfortunately, this is the sad fact — given the ContentID architecture, assets rights can be re-registered an infinite number of times.
And yes, you are right to point out that keeping track of your own catalog is a huge amount of work.
In the past two months, the situation I described earlier was repeated twice more.
There needs to be constant monitoring.

I’m gradually releasing all my protfolio.
First, when I wasn’t even aware that I could run into these problems, I started to receive messages that the music I’m trying to upload is already in the system of distributor!
Then I quickly realised that I can Shazam them. And voila - I also was able to find those guys. I sent proofs to the distributor that this is my music and in 85% of cases it was OK, beacuse the thiefs use different distributors and not all of them respond the in same way (on Youtube you can find stolen tracks after Shazam and find “topic” channels were you can see in description of every song which distributor the song was released by so you can contact them). So now before releasing my music I just Shazam all my songs and always find those not very pleasant guys
