wanted to purchase "kapena" template but it is not updated for wordpress 5.x. do you know if it is going to be updated or can you recommend a similar which is compatible

Your link is for elements and not the full copy i.e may be an older copy (although @CocoBasic is a well respected author so may be planning to update it), and remember with elements there is no support or updates as there is with phrases from the main marketplaces

The last update for Kapena was a Month ago and the theme should work fine with WP 5.x.
On Elements there is no option to select the 5.x for WordPress compatibility. Take a look on image here:

On other side, on ThemeForest there is a option to select WP 5.x

Note - on Elements is also the latest version (the same as on ThemeForest).

@royrogel theme should work fine with WP 5.X. If you are Elements subscriber you can download it from there or on other side you can buy a copy from ThemeForest Marketplace (in this case you will get 6 months support + lifetime updates).
