Transfer of Envato License to other party

OK, thank you. Then I will go with this solution. As other members pointed out - do not put your client through too much work. And all information would be theirs but my credit card. In my case, there will only be changeover at only one point so it would be strange if that rose security problems - people change computers, phones and place of residens all the time.

All true but it’s a much bigger headache for your client if it’s bought in your account and they get into trouble and can’t access updates etc.

As long as you keep the account theirs even if you pay for it then it should be ok

I think that creating a separate account for your client is indeed the way to go, however, if there is a website theme with 50 different templates that I would like to explore myself for future clients would I be able to purchase the license for myself to play around with and/or customize for a future client, then export/import into the clients public domain AND then purchase a new license under that clients account just for the legality of it? Would the imported site on the clients domain ask for the license key and retain all the customization? Would I even be able to use my clients new license (API themforest key) and themforest user name?

Thanks in advance

thanks for the answers
But how we do, for transfer ? I dont see option to transfer…

Just to throw in my thoughts at this point…

I contacted Envato this week regarding the issue of Dev/Client Licenses, I also contacted the WP Theme developer (Artbees) and this is what I deducted from the whole thing…

As a Freelancer I can purchase the WP Theme, in this case Jupiter (by Artbees), and develop an end product for my customer. Amir from Artbees kindly explained the following:

“You can use the code to reproduce and resell it, or even you can give it for free
however API keys are our intellectual property and an end product between buyers and us.”

In his definition, the term “buyers” causes some confusion, because I am the buyer, but my customer buys the end product/solution from me…

Anyway, the customers websites are tied to the Theme Dev via an API Key. Now, I have an account with Artbees and on there I have several API Keys for several customers. Even if I tried to use the theme files elsewhere, I can’t activate the theme or gain updates automatically. I am happy with this and completely stick to this principle of one license per project.

I personally don’t think the client should be transferred the licenses/files - but I do feel that they should register with the Theme/Plugin Developer their end product. This registration could included the Envato purchase code from the freelancer. This way you tie the Freelancers purchases, the end users product/solution to the developer(s) of the Theme(s)/Plugin(s).

I think Envato should create a generic API deployment system that developers can use for their plugins/themes because there are a lot of developers who code doesn’t use such, and therefore, they are open to being uses over and over again!

So let’s see if I have this correct.

I purchase a theme/template as a Christmas gift for a friend, which I did do.
And that friend can’t even use the theme? All because there’s no way for the Envato License to be transferred to their account?! To make matters worse, if the friend uses the theme I downloaded, they will never be notified of the updates, be allowed to download said updates, not have tech support access?!
All because the purchase can’t be legally transferred between Envato accounts?!

That Is STUPID!
Just transfer the purchase from my account to their’s.
Require a verification of the transfer from both accounts.
Why is this such a difficult thing to implement?!

you can getting touch with Envato customer success

They would like to assist you & guide you what you have to do in this situation.

That’s exactly the point. Transferring a license just has to be possible.

Sometimes you just have to buy a plugin to test first or in a hurry because of a near deadline and just can’t do it via the customer then. Other companies handle that absolutely fabulous. E.g. German Shopware AG. They have plugins for hundreds or even packages for over thousand dollars on their market place and do a great and secure job in transferring licenses. Both sides have to validate so no fraud here.

For me (personally) the ONLY true reason on Envato Market not doing so is just the additional work by offering this service. So dear Envato, if you already have a ‘customer success’ department, please make customers successful (the easy way) by providing professional license handling.

From a distance: Would envatos turnover be nourished mainly by professionals working for customers, the case would most certainly be different. But this is not democracy, it is accounted. And that is why we see all these nice products with the convenient price tags.

That sounds good, but where did you find the personal token?

I can’t find this either! Help?

A post was split to a new topic: Can I re-use a theme license if the original website no longer exists?

Hey Guys,

What if the client just buys a wordpress theme on their own account. But later, they sell their business and wants to transfer the website license to the new business owner. Is that allowable?
