Seller Aftersales Reviews

I think some kind of review system for aftersales with sellers would be beneficial for both customers and authors.

I bought a great plugin which had great reviews. So far so good.

It needed basic customisation and I agreed the details, price and timescale with the seller.

I’m $160 out of pocket, the customisations were not completed on time, the customisation does not even work, and the authors have interfered with the live pages of a website which they assured they would not do.

It has been a disaster and damaged my relationship with an important client. I have asked for a refund or for them to compete the work but I do not think I’'ll be getting an answer.

This is the first item I have needed to get anything customised and it has put me off completely.

How can we have a system that alerts other users to rogue sellers?

Im not justifying your bad experience but this will never happen -

envato won’t (and shouldn’t) allow their marketplace to be used to rate users in situations which were privately agreed, outside of their control or involvement, and where they may not have the full details of a situation.

This type of situation was a major consideration when launching envato studio where envato are officially involved, whereby they can regulate it all properly and hence they allow reviews etc

Again I’m not tying to justify or detract from your situation, and I’m sure envato would want to know if an author or buyer is being inappropriate. However:

  • situations are not always that simple

  • some buyers can be just as bad if not worse than authors so there would need to be a level playing field

  • the truth is that in some cases at least there will be questions around subjectivity, expectation and experience which could easily cloud judgement or lead to unfair comments.

Anything (not referencing your case) short of envato involving themselves and investigating each case (which is not realistically possible) would most likely either end up being exploited or creating more confusion.

Charlie, thanks I understand and do not expect envato to be responsible for private agreements.

I like your Studio system, I think something like that that authors could opt into would be a killer feature for Codecanyon.

It’s extra revenue for you and the sellers to upsell easily from product pages or confirmation emails, and buyers are tendering to the people that wrote the scripts so costs & turnaround would likely to be lower than an unfamiliar third party.

Please stick this in your suggestion box!

Actually to provide a better feedback I would, for example, need to hear the Authors side also. In many cases buyers initial requests are not enough and then the client wants much more hours then it was calculated in the beginning.

Not that I do not trust you. But you also have Envato studios which was made for such ventures.

Yes, agree scope changing is a problem for authors. Remember we deal with this too with our clients. So why not a system that grows a single codecanyon transaction into a working relationship. Everyone benefits.

That is why I propose a Studio type system linked to purchases.

The problem with Studio is it disconnected from the original Author and Client purchasing experience. So in many cases you would deal with coders unfamiliar with the product they are modifying. Not technically a great problem but a great waste of time and money, not to mention loss of potential revenue for authors that would opt into such a system

Yes but author hesitate to go trough envato system because envato grabs 30%

Sure, that would be their choice.

Also a choice for the customer… I’d pay 30% more for a developer fee if it meant accountability and a mediator.

It all depends. For example we charge 50 eur per hour. And for quite a few people this is to much but it all depenta on how much one can do in an hour.
