Can’t seem to find the newest items displayed from Followed Authors in Envato Market’s front pages. What’s the point of following an author if there’s no display of the newest items?
Is it (permanantly) gone?

yes that section has removed but there is a alternative menu to get follow feed Items by browsing All Items => Follow Feed or direct: https://videohive.net/follow_feed mean market root url/follow_feed
