Easy, to create the illusion of community. What they forget though is that discussion for the sake of discussion, creating false and misleading sense that our vote means something do not make anyone feel good, right the contrary, we feel disrespected and many of us would appreciate if they just posted it and disabled commenting.
At least there would be some honesty in all this…
Yesterday 187 pageviews of my WordPress theme it is in the first page and I am really sure 90% authors
if you look at the first/second page of WordPress, Template everywhere you find all authors even Power author impact of this experiment.
it is wasting of time, more than 5 months to build a WordPress theme then get 6 Sales and not chance to get more than 30 sales even your price is $13 because no customer will see the new items.
I don’t know how you think and I don’t believe it is an experiment because it has been 2 months and this experiment overall the marketplace even the categories, subcategories, tags everything everywhere.
Good! you understand the impact of the experiment for the new items and new authors and I think you should act more quickly and I think the best solution for that to create new subcategories for new items.
yes i think so and it time for us to move our new item to other market place.
Do you have any recommend Marketplace?
Our sales have completely dropped after the switch to “Best Sellers”. It was much better when it was “Best Rated”. We really don’t understand why you’re trying to promote best selling themes even more while there is a link to “Popular Items” everywhere.
Yea…no sales for the last 2 days… I’m desperate with this place
I can’t understand one thing. What the reason to display item’s create date if we have ‘last updated’ field? From my point of view ‘created’ field is not necessary. If item updating regularly it mean that a theme is ‘fresh’. I think some buyers wil not purchase item if it was created 5 years ago even if it updated two days ago. Envato you should think abou it.
This is easily the worst decision in the last few years by envato. You risk the future of the marketplace for a mere 5% increase, which will very probably be a temporary and not a long time gain.
If the marketplaces bestsellers had been uploaded with today’s sorting defaults, would they have become best sellers?
How many of the files uploaded during the tests became best sellers?
You are steering this marketplace into a dead end; no new items getting exposure means no new items getting best sellers, no new items getting best sellers means no change on the files getting exposure.
You place a bet on the current bestsellers, that they will remain best selling and bring in money forever. But this will end some day and then you will have lost a lot of authors and a lot of new items because of bad performance results for new items that drove them away to other marketplaces or simply out of business.
You say you don’t want to get the next best sellers because you prefer the current best sellers. This is a stupid decision.
And for a single digit percentage increase in conversion it becomes a very stupid decision.
I say this as a top 20 videohive author. New items are important, even if my sales have been good during the tests. You kill the future of the marketplaces.
Perhaps this a deliberate decision in order to force new and complex products to be published on Elements. I mean an author will try to make up this loss of exposure and income an one way provided is Elements.
It makes more sense to me that this is a calculated decision rather than a stupid one.
It would be true if they did it for all markets. But they left audiojungle with newest items sort.
So they literally do it because of 5% increase.
And of course Elements do not make so much money to upload new items there, just because we can.
There are only two explanations:
- Somebody from staff does intentional harm for company.
- Somebody from staff was employed by accident. And must be fired after people with brains will understand what they have done.
Yes, absolutely agree. Someone from staff does harm Envato. Envato — PLEASE TAKE CARE
Sad Fact: 4 total sales at the first page of new After Effects Templates and 8 total sales at the second page.
I’m an audio jungle author with modest sales and all this doesn’t really impact on me in any major way. But as an observer I am struggling to understand the rationale behind what is happening to ThemeForest. I’d have said that if ever there was a market in which you’d want to encourage authors to invest time and resources in developing new products that take advantage of software improvements, improved hardware specifications, new approaches to look and feel etc. this is it! Making new items less visible than older items seems very likely to be counter productive over the long-term even if there may be a very marginal improvement in conversion over the short term.
I think it would be great to remove items that have not been in the last 2 years:

fuelthemes Think about it two years later too
Of course it’s calculated, since the market’s no more community orientated!
And I was climbing every year sales wise, improving and honing my craft, just like 80 percent of Envato authors… But this year these decisions, tests and experiments are putting a deliberate halt to my success, creativity, inspiration and growth as a dedicated participant in this market! Sales is half since the beginning of the year, and my income is dropping steady, but who cares, right… Let the creme de la cremme feast, while we are fighting for the crumbs down there!
What anyone is repeating since ages in the forum. Envato encourages autors to follow advises from customers, but with authors they do the exact opposite, like “let’s do this change and then see who will stop selling and go grow tomatoes tomorrow because of our weird change”.
If is a music or an HTML they can still work, but for WP themes and plugins, removing items that are not updated since 1 year would be just a quality improvement for the entire market and for the reputation in general.
People buy outdated plugins and themes and then they get hacked, who do you think they blame if not envato?
Do not remove any items, just give the new items a chance in the market. That’s all we ask for.
Is there any slight chance of the Envato team reverting this decision of showing “Best Sellers” by default? Considering the past, they never reverted their decisions, be it good or bad. They are complete thought out decisions according to them. There is no hope here.
