So I am more baffled by the fact that Audiojungle did not see an increase in conversion than I am by the fact that every other marketplace performed better when only showing the bestsellers.

I think the difference with audio assets is that people want something unique, if you want to choose your game background track you wouldn’t want to pick a track that has already been purchased thousands of times, so when you search for audio track you usually go for something that you like and doesn’t have that many downloads.

No way Envato will implement something like this. It may increase sales for new items, but not Envato’s general earning. They favor bestsellers because those bestsellers are bringing the majority of earning. I guess it’s a common practice, actually …
Like the James said - they are all humans at Envato, that’s true, but their perspective and interest are vastly different then authors’.

We are redesigning category pages to be more inclusive of all types of items, best selling, new, curated, seasonal, thematic, etc. As the new category page layout is refined, the concept of a default sort order will no longer be relevant because the new default category page will include items in all sort types. Our intention is to replace the default sort order of all category pages with a new category page layout .

The “Newest items” filter will never go back again !!!

I’d imagine that in other areas besides audio one would think that as well. But now that you said it, I realize Audiojungle is the only marketplace where most of the revenue is made with non-customizable products, so you may be right. On all other marketplaces (besides already dead Photodune), the biggest sales are with customizable templates or other stuff that will have work put on top of it…
