What will happen to CodeCanyon and ThemeForest

What will happen to CodeCanyon and ThemeForest

I am really curious about the plans for CC and TT, if the new management decides to make it some sort of subscription model like ELements they will lose all authors… but at this point, the stupidity in this CEO’s for money can create any kind of monster…

So I was right that Elements will destroy everything including Elements, it is not a sustainable product…

As we are not active authors it would not be right for us to comment on the impact of elements but in terms of CC and TF becoming a subscription model, hopefully decision makers can see why that:
a) would dilute one of envato’s USPs and
b) is a recipe for disaster based on the existing model that would not work as it is.

For example you cannot charge someone a years subscription to support, updates, access etc unless you can guarantee that the author is going to deliver on that, which it is very difficult for envato to do.

It will lead to a terrifying amount of refunds

No plans for that so far. Code and web definitely benefit from an author support system.

This is what I am saying code will not work in a subscription model, I have worked on my plugins for almost 15 years… the amount of work that I put in them is insane it is impossible to offer quality code in a subscription model, I really hope the new management will see this and not destroy everything in the end they will lose those 300 mil $ and also lose a really good opportunity to revive this place, nost authhors are still here I am among them.

It is not just about support it is about the income, as a n author it is impossible to make a living creating good plugins for 0.001 cents it is just not possible, I am the only one who sees this.

Look at what happened with Elements it was obvious from day one that it will not work…

So now I can’t even speak my mind anymore here on the forum?

What is going on with this place?

They already do that. Buyer can renew his support at whatever time and nobody can guarantee that he will receive it. So they better remove this system since 95% of the buyers does not need support and neither they would pay for it.

You are really wrong about this, support is necessary, is not just about questions is about bugs that might arrive at some point what then?

You buy a script work with it configure it and two months later it dose not work because who knows what changed in the browser or some wired bug, do you thing the developer will bother if he does not get anything from it also do you know that there are plugins here on the marketplace that are being updated and supported for more than 10 years in a subscription model it is impossible for an author to make a living so bye bye good quality items that you are used too here at Envato, all authors will try to find other ways to sell make money from their work and in the end we will.

Probably I am hoping to remain the same an build on it but considering what I have seen so far I am an idiot thinking that SS will make everything subscribable and kill this place for good, if anybody from SS is reading this if you go this way you will never recover your investment, I am hoping for someone smart in there but at this point I don’t understand the decision made, si like they intentionally wanted/want to drive away all authors, it makes no sense to me, I have said and I will say it again the CC and TT model works we need to build on it not destory it…

Support is not fixing bugs. Plugins and themes need to work correctly and this is not support.

Personal attacks are not allowed on the forums

Exactly and there are people who end up having to be refunded but the important point here is that the volume of people who do this now is nothing compared to if it were the primary method of buying items in the first place.

Personally myself I have always loved the Envato platform having two distinct options - one where a buyer can choose to purchase a theme, template or script from Codecanyon or Themeforest. OR if people prefer having the subscription model they can choose that route.

I would sincerely hope that the new marketplace (whatever that becomes) maintains these 2 options. But myself personally, I have now only invested in scripts/templates that I REALLY WANT.

Otherwise, the uncertainity of what may happen has put me off in some ways of buying certain products until there is a definite THIS IS WHAT THE PLATFORM WILL BE LIKE - as @KingDog says there is a need for an author support system, otherwise buyers could be left with countless scripts and not know what to do with them.

HAPPY BANK HOLIDAYS if you live in the UK peeps.

Support is fixing bugs and plugins complex plugins end up with endless emails, and you have no idea about what it means to support a plugin or a script!

If this goes subscription mode those scripts/.templates will be gone or not supported updated anymore, what do you do then, you know that they must be updated constantly, and keep a close eye on changes in the browser and other stuff.

Again code without support and direct attention from the authors will not work, in a few months nobody will buy code anymore since they will be left in the dark, today I had to explain to a client how to setup something in one of my plugins since it has many features…

But who I am is that SS will be a subscription model 100% and this place will be gost of what it once was but other opportunities will arise from this!

I spoke about this many times as a developer you can’t make a living from a subscription model with code, do you jnow that some plugins are under development for more than 10 years… it is just not possible!

A script/plugin/theme is not stock footage, I understand from a user that dose not know what support means and how long it take so put together a plugin theme… selling it in a subscription model for 1 cent it is just not possible to make an income to live, if they do that CC and TF will disappear in a few weeks everybody will leave day one, what will remain is trash…
