Thanks for the comment and I understand the concern. After Effects templates will only be available on Annual subscriptions. The type of customer that would look to Envato Elements is one who anticipates the value of access to After Effects templates (and other item types) as worth the annual investment.

As I said in the original post, the data shows that Elements earnings overall have been incremental to earnings on Envato Market, where authors are able to earn more than they would on Envato Market alone.

Elements represents a new way for authors to earn, alongside their existing Envato Market earnings.

Can anybody explain this process. I mean if your file(s) on the elements site, then? you should upload files to elements or to your portfolio? Or the files that will be on elements should be invisible in your market portfolio? Just want to understand how it works.

For authors who are invited to join Elements, they will have the option of choosing to make a file available on Elements.

I know that negative comments by authors are irrelevant in this situation, videos will be on elements…so, who gets an invitation please? Elite authors, top 100 authors, all authors…?

With Elements, we assess and select authors against a list of criteria that includes the size of the portfolio, the quality of the items and the past history of the author (do they have any copyright infringements or other legal issues that have come up related to their items).

Thank you. But what about exclusivety? As far as I know Elements is not a part of envato market. It’s independent business like envato studio

While Envato Elements is a different product, similar to Studio, for authors who are exclusive to Envato Market and invited to Envato Elements, they will maintain their exclusivity status.

All we can read on the threads here is about TF and GR artists hurting.

A quick search regarding “Elements” in the “Elite Forum” brings up quite intimidating threads which many are prevented from reading.

Perhaps a “success story” from just one author talking about how he earns more from the move?

Is there any feedback from Themeforest or Photodune authors ? What was the real financial impact for them.

How much do you get paid for a sale on your item if its part of the Elements collection as there is no more price but just a monthly subscription ?

I guess it would be great to be into Elements but a nightmare to compete with it.

I don’t have an opinion on this yet. Is there any author from Themeforest or Graphicriver, who has long-term and stable income? It would be nice to hear from him, that how has Elements affected his salary.

It’s too soon for results to come in from WordPress on Envato Elements but some authors have mentioned their early experience. You can check out this post and this one to hear from two authors. We also have a few reports from authors of our last major item type launch, Photos, which I can share with you. This is unsolicited feedback from a separate third-party forum, not connected to Envato.

Last year at this time we did an update on the early results from Elements for Graphics authors:

Most of Envato Elements so far is graphics, so we’ve been watching GraphicRiver sales closely. In Elements’ launch month of August, GraphicRiver had its best August ever, despite us marketing Elements the whole month long across the header.

And in the three months since Elements’ launch GraphicRiver has continued strong sales, and is almost exactly where we had forecast it would be (using a model that didn’t account for Elements). In other words, the effect on GraphicRiver appears to be very, very small.

We also looked at a sample of Elements contributors who are also authors on Market. The story for them was universally positive, with no negative influence identified. In fact, many had healthy growth in Market earnings as well as a new revenue stream from Elements. And a surprisingly large proportion earned more from Elements in the month than they did from selling on Market.

Plus, a detailed customer & subscriber analysis shows that Elements is attracting new customers in large numbers who’ve never purchased from Market before. Taken together, this bodes well for authors and contributors, with incremental earnings for the community as a result of Elements.

That still holds true and as we’ve added new item types, the experience of authors in those item types has been similar.

I haven’t watched closely this “elements” thing but from what I read in this forum it is not considered as a good development.

So if elements are bad for the authors then why would an author agree to be part of it? I mean no author participation, no elements, is that right or am I missing something?

Second question about elements is the piracy phenomenon. A pirate now can only pay 29$ and download all the elements projects and distribute them the next day from his/her website?

I’ve just realized that you can easily find tutorials on Youtube that teach you how to download basically everything for free from Envato markets…Is Envato doing something about it since we are supposed to be creative and they do the rest which i guess it includes also to protect our items from thieves?

Why I have this feeling, as always, that the answer is going to be: NO?

Can you tell us how you will protect us from pirated website?, right now pirated website buy our templates officially and reseller it on their website, later on elements you will give him the best gift ever, imagine this when pay $228 and get everything for one year . believe me if envato spend the same time on building and marketing elements website to protect us from the pirated website they will earn the same amount of money without need to run this new business.

In what I am sure so far all about this is that Envato should “take care” a bit seriously and create a special team against pirate sites and another fraud with our items.

If envato cannot protect us authors from abusive buyers which doesnt care about licensing, then envato should not allow stock videos or animation templates be available on elements.

This danger is real. No one will ever buy 4k stock on videohive again…

Great questions! Thanks for asking them. Authors who choose to be part of Envato Elements see the value of incremental recurring revenue that comes in addition to the earnings they get from Envato Market.

Most Envato Elements subscribers use items within the boundaries of acceptable use, licensing items for each project they use. We also take abuse on Envato Elements seriously. We have a fair use policy in place as well as systems set up to identify and track users who demonstrate a higher than usual download rate.

Will our projects automatically be available on Elements, or is this something we have to choose? Because, at the end of the day we can just choose not to upload our projects on Elements, and thereby keep the quality of those projects lower than here on Videohive. If on the other hand our projects automatically are uploaded on elements, this will probably result in a LOT of authors leaving.

Any author invited to make After Effects items available on Envato Elements can choose which items they would like to make available there.

Actually, it is not so bad. Looks bad, but it isn’t. That’s just life:)

To be honest, I have been expected this for a long time.

Envato must adapt, and the only way to stay on top in this game is to be competitive. The other marketplaces, like Videoblock you should actually blame for this. Envato simple response to their strategy to survive. That’s my opinion.

The fact is: yes, it will be lot of solid templates there that you can purchase for pennies,but…BIG but… creative ones will remain on Videohive with their original price. And you will have buyers in both category.

Bottom line, create original content and you will still have sales on Videohive. And if you as Videohive author don’t produce sales in a future, that means that you as an Elements author will be making more money than you use to do as Videohive author:)

I hope other authors will find logic here…Off course this was just my humble opinion:slight_smile:

from what Envato are saying, you won;t just lose X marketplace revenue and gain exactly the same X back from Elements revenue… you’ll (on average) see increases over and above that.

That is what we are saying.

I think Elements could be a fine addition if it has some cheap value basic assets for both authors / buyers - textures, simple 3d models, some primitive backgrounds or transitions, also move 1$ Sound Fx from AJ for example, etc.

But if there will be complicated high end products and templates…+ all items manually picked by staff!! Yeah, it is amazing for customers. But not sure about authors. I think current price/quality is already the best on VideoHive for buyers, what’s the point to make it even less value?

The goal is not to decrease the value of items that authors create but to introduce a new recurring earning opportunity for authors to earn from those same items with a different type of customer.

I think this is in the control of us the authors. Elements can have a very positive effect or quite a negative effect.

I think the general/ similar/ trendy items have a place in elements, as you mentioned, this is of great value to customers while adding revenue to authors who would like to do a basic template from time to time.

On the other hand, the more elaborate templates and packages deserve their own place in the market, they offer so much value that it is simply ridiculous to be offered at 29$ monthly access for all. These projects have so many work put into them that they are completely stand alone products with significant value, they are not simply an other project. If these projects are kept for Envato Market/ Videohive, Videohive can end up being an invaluable resource of well thought, creative and elaborate projects, and I am sure these have their place in the market.

We can choose to build up Videohive together or destroy it. It is really in our hands. Of course a little help in maintaining this infrastructure from Envato Staff would be great.

Hey guys, I don’t really get what all this whining is about. First you need to be selected or approved by Envato in order to have access to Elements. Then YOU can choose which of your items are being made available in Elements. It is entirely up to you if you want to take part in this new revenue model or not.

The only thing I don’t understand is whether Authors are being paid MONTHLY or ONLY ONCE:

“For example, let’s say there was only one subscriber, they generate revenue (excluding transactional taxes) of $29 for the month, and download items worth a total of 20 item points.The amount available for sharing with the authors of those items is 50% x $29 = $14.50.”

Let’s say that subscriber only downloads these 20 point worth items once, remains subscribed but does not download anything else. Will the same authors repeatedly receive this shared amount each month?

Authors on Envato Elements receive payouts for items each month. If a subscriber downloads an item in November, the author will be paid for that download. If a subscriber does not download anything in December, then the monthly equivalent of 50% of the net revenue from their subscription fee is divided evenly among all authors on Elements, what we call the Elements Contributor Bonus.
