Shopify Theme Missing "layout/theme.liquid"

Hi there,

I downloaded a few themes from Envato Elements and uploaded the zipped files to Shopify, but they all have the same error:

"zip does not contain a valid theme: missing template “layout/theme.liquid”

Anyone have some advice to solve this problem?

Are you sure it’s a Shopify theme? What is the item link?

If it is then make sure you are only trying to install the theme folder and not the entire download

Shopify says I must upload the zip file of the theme so I tried to upload the theme I downloaded and it has the same error;

zip does not contain a valid theme: missing template “layout/theme.liquid”

Seems that you are uploading wrong .zip file. You should unzip package you downloaded from themeforest/elements and you will find another .zip in it, which should be called like your THEM-NAME.zip. Please try to install that .zip

how did you fix that problem please cuz im trying to upload a theme and i have the same error message on spotify

i unzip my package and there’s no other package with this name inside the folder

please make sure you have purchased shopify theme. also you can check theme documentation where author should explain how to use/install the theme.

Otherwise the best way to get the support is Contact your purchased theme Author. How to Contact Author and let them know. theme Author will be very happy to assist you.
