Sales down 70% from 2018 to 2023 !!! Terrible status! What do you think about the future?

It seems that Elements is more profitable for Envato and that is why they are focusing on it. Selfishness and greed for more profit in the pockets of managers!
And soon they will replace designers and developers with AI. With the development of AI, the work of 1000 people can be done by only 10 people and as a result the commission that Envato has to pay will be greatly reduced and Envato managers will become richer and developers and designers will become poorer!

It would be best if we could go with the flow together, marketplace, stuff and authors. Its much better than this one way road which leads to adapt or die.

I just want to share something with you, my data from another marketplace and I will ask you to find what is wrong with it :upside_down_face:.

This AI will replace devs, let’s be real… most of my clients have no idea what code is, yesterday I had a client who did not know how to add a URL in the backend…

This AI will replace devs is just a strong propaganda; so far, it has not replaced any good developer. if you are like me, there will be more demand for good developers than ever!

When I create a product, the code is the last thing I think about.

Try to do an app with AI see how good it is.

I use AI is great, but to replace devs si pure nonsense.. I don’t see this happening unless some other type of AI appears… this one is just here to help me!

oh wow what happened? My sales are never amazing, but they’ve never been this low either. Not even sure I can reach the threshold this month

One single step can save the marketplace as well as the entire envato for long run, just remove the coded item from elements. I think this will keep the elements library almost same and the subscribers won’t be unhappy at that much.

Even if all code will be added in Elements still it would not make much od diffenrece, code without support is nothing, has no value.

Envato shuld do the righ thing not trick clients, the banner shuld not trick clients into believing they will get everything from the marketpalces as well and remove the banner form the product pages.. this will bring some balance between them… on the long run it will matter…

I understand that Elements is a priority but it will sink with the marketplaces, if market fall Elemenst follows we can already see this happening.

Not code or templates author here, but same situation. 2 sales this month. For the first time I’m below threshold by mid month. I still remember the day I uploaded my first item (2016), went to lunch, and when I was back I had already passed the payment threshold with a single item portfolio.

Got it!

I’m not sure if I should take your opinions seriously as you’re not an author but:

As you have some points, it’s hard to blame the authors/support policy or lack of item features and similar items.

Reviewer team should’ve picked the designs/items more carefully rather than allowing everyone. This is a case for some authors, for some, even though they upload the exact same item with small modifications, for some reason, they got approval ( I can still show few samples )

As an author at both marketplace and Elements, you’re right about the point those items on Elements are usually not selling well at CodeCanyon but some authors aim to upload all of their items which is creating problem. For me, I used to use Elements to gain more traffic from Elements to support my sales at CodeCanyon as most of my items at Elements are limited, users still need to purchase to unlock ā€œall featuresā€ ( new features are behind updates through my server ) and it was helping, believe or not.

The issue started last year when Envato stopped marketing and followed by ā€œElementsā€ banners all over the place at the marketplace. It’s confusing and causing doubt for the buyers. They take a look at Elements, at first, they think it’s better offer but after they are losing the trust to Envato and leaving the marketplace all together.

Lots of issues started from the beginning but I don’t think it’d get better anytime soon. For CodeCanyon, I’m checking with other authors, the first week the total unique visits is around 150-200, after the third day, it goes down to 20 per day.

Edit: Here’s a new item approved on CC, see the traffic:

I’m not sure about ThemeForest visits, I have already stopped wasting my time ( for rejections ) for long time ago as way worst items were getting approval. But I can see from the sales, lots of authors ( even Elite/Power Elite ) having trouble to sell their items, I can still check the total numbers.

That’s also my point. Somewhere I said ā€œdomino effectā€ at this thread probably…
ThemeForest would face the same issue when/if ā€œthe top 10ā€ leaves the marketplace but I’m pretty sure Envato would do anything to keep them here as well but they won’t stay long. 30% commission is too much when the item is selling.

Another wise change that can bring back the old glory of the market is to stop lifetime updates. Buyers can use lifetime, but they will get updates and support for 1 year. After that, if they want updates and support, they have to renew the license. Very simple.

The terms & conditions are subject to change. 15/20 years ago, lifetime updates were a very promising feature. But in 2025, it is completely obsolete. This is one of the core reason for the downfall of the market. The entire landscape of the IT industry has changed. If you don’t update yourself with time, the result is what we are facing now.

If a product is a little old, it no longer sells. As a result, authors do not update it anymore, but change the same thing a little and create new items. In this way, the entire library becomes a collection of outdated products.

Because of this, not only authors are suffering, but buyers are too. Due to the lack of updates, their live sites are also facing a lot of issues.

So I think that Envato itself, authors and buyers, and ultimately the entire industry would benefit if they were a little braver and made changes, instead of clinging to old ideas and destroying the marketplace.

I was thinking the same or maybe he’s been sarcastic but I also though maybe some reason the sales are up for temporarily.
