I hope this email finds you well. Today, I am submitting an Envato Template Kit and I have a question regarding adding images to the template kits.
I recently received feedback from the Reviewer stating that all photos of people must be sourced from Envato Elements in order to comply with the legal requirements for commercial distribution. Additionally, to support upcoming changes to infrastructure and licensing, any Elements assets used in kits must be saved to a collection on Elements and then provide that single link in the item description.
I am a bit confused about this requirement. Does this mean that I have to purchase an Element Subscription in order to use images for creating template kits?
I would greatly appreciate any clarification or guidance on this matter. Thank you for your time and assistance.
Yes, you will need to purchase an Envato Elements subscription in order to use images of people in your Template Kits. The requirement to use only Envato Elements images for photos of people is in place to protect the privacy and copyrights of the people depicted in the images. I know this is a little bit late topic-date-wise, but I can’t not to say that it’s not fair to ask Envato/TF authors to buy Envato Elements subscription. We use imagery to create products that are sold to third parties, and only the end users should buy subscription if they plan to use that imagery.
Why?
What am I gonna do with images of people and places? Hang it on the wall?
If end users want to use it commercially then it really makes sense for them to buy. Otherwise, Envato/TF is taxing both authors and the end users which is very frustrating.
I bet that 99% of end users refuse to go for the subscription considering the fact that there are zillions of CC0 images of people and places out there.
So the authors end up paying subscription just to be able to put an item on the market.
Envato/TF should at least allow authors to use watermarked imagery without paying any subscription.
