My agony with After Effects - help :)

Since I bought my new Mac Pro, couple of moths ago, I just cannot set my After Effects to work. Contacted adobe support numerous times, of course, they didn’t help me. Posted a thread on adobe forum page, but nothing… no help in solving my problem. Last (but not least) resort is here on vh.

So, the problem is that my after effects is randomly crashing. Where I use some third party plug-in, or dockable script in UI panel. Last crash that I had was on Camera Tracker plug in from foundry, but I had crashes from videocopilot’s plugins and some other. Even without using any plugins, AE crashes. Everything, including AE and my OSX is up to date.

Now, what I found out by myself, is that when I dock some scripts into UI panel and make custom workspace, that AE crashes. All the scripts that I’m using on regular basis I’ve also used on PC and never ever had this problems; the ones I use the most are RepositionAnchorPoint, True Comp Duplicator, Ease and Wizz, BG Renderer… They are also up to date.

This is the error I get the most when AE crashes.

<ASL.ResourceUtils.GetLanguageIDFromRegistry><0> Unable to obtain the User ‘Language’ registry key at: Software\Adobe\After Effects\10.5.1\Defaulting to ‘en_US’. Generatic crash log, which may take a few minutes.

I have try to disable OpenGL too, because sometimes it can cause these problems, but with no luck.

I am a bit desperate here, because adobe doesn’t want or can’t solve my problems. You just can’t work normally. Regarding Adobe, a lot of people lately are very disappointed at them, as well as me. Especially with CS6 and CC having a lot of issues regarding speed. They just cannot make their software use full potential of hardware. A sea of bugs and speed issues they have and worst of all is the support which gives generic answers just to get rid of you. Well, let me say something to you adobe, if you expect to make profit in the future, you will have to change your system of working, otherwise someone will crush you.

Anyway, sorry for my fury, if anyone is keen to help, I would really be more than thankful! Thank you guys in advance.

p.s. I’m using 5.5

Did you try to uninstall AE, and use script from adobe that wipe all of the registry coresponding with AfterEffects? Maybe that helps since AE crash log that you`ve posted is linked to registry error. Good luck anyway.

I know it is for sure not what you want to hear but I am running Win7 on my Mac Pro because of better performance in After Effects. You can make it dual boot so that you don’t lose out on Mac.

I did uninstall adobe production premium and installed it again. The scripts too. As for registry, I dunno how to do that on Mac.

I heard this somewhere… Maybe I will try that, but still it should work on mac os too…

Yes, it should work in Mac OS, too. But just rest assured that in the end, you can use your performance with win7

That is link to the script that I`ve mentioned. That tool saved me for few times. It will wipe all the registry of the Adobe products, and you can try fresh and clean install afterwards.

Sorry for non-English guys.

tried that videomaster too. The cleaner tool  Also tried deleting preferences. Believe me, I tried everything possible there is.

Try to kill the ‘‘dynamiclinkmanager’’ process

‘’ p.s. I’m using 5.5 ‘’ - Trial Version ?

Of course not. Full version. I also have a feeling that dynamic link is making trouble, but could you tell me more? Why should I kill it?

well, I’m not sure that the ‘‘dynamic link’’ is the main problem ) I need some more information…
Can you send me the Crash Report ? I will analyse it.

but Let’s try to do something  I will not stop until I solve your problem…

1st Method:

I need the exact model, of the AMD Graphic Card you have and Drv. Version, because I suspect the AMD Drivers and I wanna do an experiment.

2nd Method:

1. Go to:

/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/10.5/ModifiedWorkspaces/

2. Find all the .xml files...Take them out and move to another temporary folder.

3. Delete all the .xml files from the default folder - I mean ''ModifiedWorkspaces''

4. Start After Effects (if it doesn't start - Kill the process and try again 2x times)

Probably, the crash is caused by a damaged .xml file (UserWorkspace)

If it doesn’t work,
Please, send me the Crash Report,
maybe I can help you.

Yo bro, i’m sad to hear about your issues with the software. I know it’s not a solution but i still wanted to let you know this script in advance, since if you don’t use it - it can be a lifesaver http://aescripts.com/ae-suicide-after-effects-crash-recovery/

I am also experiencing allot of crashes but i have gotten used to it with Adobe After Effects sadly, i figured it is just part of the software so i changed my work behavior in such a way i get minimal crashes.
Indeed popular workarounds contain things like working in a default kind of work space with minimal scripts loaded etc etc.

I just load the scripts when i actually need them these day’s i only use 1 or 2 really often, the rest i just didn’t get used to enough to actually need them in my interface or work environment.

Again i am aware that these do not solve your main problem but i’m not in their development team sadly so nothing more to add in that regard.

Best of luck mate.

what I can think off is maybe some software breaks connectivity between Adobe software and services running at a certain time.

I don’t know how Mac OS works but maybe there exist some firewall and/or antivirus. What could happen is that it may trigger when scripts access the network. If this hypothetical defense system thinks there’s a danger it may block connectivity without warnings.

an unrelated question, I see you’ve mentioned “Ease and Wizz”, did the license of this script allow us to use it in After Effects template for sale here?

Thank you for the answers guys, I will definitely try what you suggested. I think doru what you said about firewall, makes sense, when Im in office I will try that. As for license I dunno that for ease and wizz.

It clearly states the problem <ASL.ResourceUtils.GetLanguageIDFromRegistry><0> Unable to obtain the User ‘Language’ registry key at: Software\Adobe\After Effects\10.5.1\Defaulting to ‘en_US’

I am sure it is refering to your MAC’s language database, like region, like fonts, symbols and everything what is connected to international usability of After Effects. You havent solved a problem because you look into wrong spot. You need to solve it not inside AE but inside MAC, you should either reinstall MAC’s something (have no AT ALL experience with mac’s - I hate apple production), you should restart or recalibrate macs regional settings. There is something wrong with your macs settings which gives error to AE which tries to use that language setting for it’s own reasons like scripting, codes, timecodes, rand’s, and so on.

Cyzer, that was my first thought. But yesterday I showed this error to apple support and they have said that its completely adobes problem. But, I dunno, they also might be wrong… I will try something. Thank you so much guys, I really appreciate your help.

What language are you running Ae in and what language are you running your OS in?

If you’re not doing already, have you tried switching both to english, just as an experiment?

Hi felt, I always use english in both, I wouldnt know to use them otherwise. The only thing I have as a second option is Croatian keyboard, but usa is default. I must say again, I have a feeling docable third party scripts in UI panel are causing these problems.

That could be. I tend to only open them while I’m actually working with them. Try working without them open and see if you get a crash, then turn them on one by one and see what happens.

I just restarted AE prefs, and didn’t place 3rd party scripts to UI panel. Crash again. Although, I did saved custom workspace only with AE panels. So, as far as I can see, docked scripts aren’t causing the crash. I’m pretty desperate at this moment.
