How to create an action in Illustrator to save a file in 5 different EPS formats?

I’ve been fighting with Illustrator for an hour without success, and I’m starting to think is not possible. I want to create an action in Illustrator that allows me to save a file in 5 different EPS formats: CS5, CS4, CS3, CS2 and CS. Anyone has any idea of how to accomplish that?

Not sure which version you have, but you should be able to access the ‘actions’ palette from the ‘Window’ menu. Then just create a new action and save one test file in the various formats - you could maybe even have 1 separate action for each version of illustrator you want to save it in.

I don’t really get what you’re talking about. There might be a little confusion in your question. Do you want to save it as EPS (in 5 different CS versions) with same name?

If not then what you’re saying can be achieved in following way:

Create a new document. Create new action. Begin recording the action. Save As the document in EPS and from the dialog box choose the version you want to save it in. Save file with any name. Repeat this step and just keep changing the versions as you want. When you’re done, stop recording the action and enable the ‘Toggle Dialog On/Off’ option against all 5 steps. That will let you save the file as EPS in 5 different versions.

I don’t know if you’re aware of this or not but EPS is not a native adobe format so I’m not sure why you want to save it out with different versions of Illustrator. An EPS in an EPS weather it’s saved in CS or CS5 or Corel or whatever. Thats the reason people use .eps because it’s a cross platform universal vector format unlike .ai which is an adobe format.

I was thinking the same while writing the reply cuz I’m sure I can open EPS in every vector editing program I have, but I assumed he wanted to do it for AI.

@Tamixes: Good point! But, that does not work. Adobe Illustrator don’t save my choice of EPS version when I’m recording the action. Doesn’t matter which version I choose, it always saves the action with the CS5 EPS choice. I needed a solution for that. Thanks!

@Raincutter: Same as above! Thanks!

@JinWook: That’s true, and I’m aware of EPS portability. However, you can make the file more compatible when saving it for a specific version. So, why would I bother doing that? The reason is to ensure maximum compatibility on the files I’m selling on Graphic River! Thanks!
