How does Envato Elements share earnings and Is it profitable for authors? and upload requirements?

Hello, everyone!

I have a few questions regarding Envato Elements and would love to get some insights from the community:

  1. How does Envato Elements distribute earnings to authors?
Could you provide an overview of how the revenue share works for contributors? Specifically, how are earnings calculated, and what percentage do authors typically receive for their uploaded items?
  2. What are the requirements for authors to upload their items to Envato Elements?
Are there any specific prerequisites for an author to start contributing their items to Envato Elements? For instance, how many items do they need to have in their portfolio before being eligible to upload?
  3. Is it profitable for authors to contribute to Envato Elements?
From your experience, do you think Envato Elements is a profitable platform for authors? How do the earnings from Elements compare to regular sales on Envato Market?

I’m curious to hear if there are many authors choosing to upload their items to Envato Elements and whether the platform has the potential to grow further as more authors join.

Looking forward to your thoughts!

Envato Team stopped the marketing after releasing Elements, and as a result, sales have decreased significantly. In the past, Envato ran Google ads daily, so whenever a new item was released, sales would start immediately, with 5–15 sales per day. But nowadays, even after releasing a new item, sales might take up to a week to start, and it could be just 1–3 sales a month. There’s no way to get the Envato team to focus on this anymore. The team previously mentioned that only a limited number of staff are working on the marketplaces; the rest are focused on Elements, where they are prioritizing customer growth and their own profits.

Great questions! Envato Elements has a revenue share model where authors typically earn a percentage based on item downloads and their subscription plans. Earnings are calculated based on factors like your total downloads and how often your items are downloaded compared to others. There are no strict prerequisites, but having a solid portfolio with several high-quality items definitely helps. As for profitability, many authors find it profitable, but it often depends on how much exposure your items get compared to other platforms like Envato Market. The platform is growing, so it could be a great option for those looking for consistent passive income.

@SPRUKO-SALES @SPRUKO Are there different people posting from these two accounts? I thought I was seeing double when two copies of your logo appeared in the thread summary

@SPRUKO-SALES Elements uses a Subscriber Share model to distribute author earnings. You can find more detail about that model in this article:

https://help.author.envato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000424883-What-is-the-Subscriber-Share-Model

Incoming revenue from each subscriber is split into Envato and Author components. The Author component is then distributed between the authors of any items that customer licenses during their billing month. There’s some weighting applied by content type, based on the relative complexity of those items - for example, a customisable video template would get a larger share of that revenue than a photo.

For Individual, Teams and Student subscriptions, the subscriber revenue is split 50:50 between Envato and the Authors.

Enterprise subscriptions are handled differently, as those customers are more expensive to acquire and manage. All our Enterprise subscription plans are customised, generally involving some combination of multi-seat licensing, indemnity insurance and account management. The author share from Enterprise subscriptions is 25% to reflect those additional costs. Despite this, any Enterprise subscribers still contributes significantly more to Author revenue than any other customer type.

There’s a lot more complexity involved in the way Subscriber Share calculates earnings throughout the month - I can answer any questions about that, if there’s more that you’d like to know.

Unlike on Market, Elements authors need to pass a portfolio review for each content type they wish to sell, before you can start uploading items for sale. Those follow the application process here:

It’s possible to apply for additional content types later on - for example, your account might be initially approved for selling Graphics. Later on your team branches out into creating 3D and Video content, and you can reapply to gain access to each of those categories as well.

I don’t know what the current rules are around minimum portfolio size for those applications, but you need to have enough content to reasonably demonstrate the breadth and quality level that you expect to be selling. You can add links to your application - for example, to an Envato Market portfolio, or to content on other sites. Those could be other marketplaces or a dedicated portfolio website.

Envato Elements is aimed at what we call “creative stock” customers: people using a combination of digital assets across categories like photos, graphics, video, audio and 3D. There has been a significant shift in customer behaviour across those categories to subscriptions over single-item purchases, and most of our Creative Stock authors make more income through that platform.

It’s not easy to make direct comparisons though, particularly where item types perform very differently. For example, VideoHive’s template sales are dominated by “all in one” multipurpose items that include hundreds (or thousands) of variants. On Elements, smaller and more specialised video templates tend to perform better as customers look for a specific effect instead of a generalist pack.

To help people tailor their items to the different platforms, we have a Child Packs policy for Video Templates that lets those authors create smaller child packs by pulling out some of the components and grouping them together.

Hi BenLeong, Sorry for inconvenience our company sales team posted that in case any issues i will inform to remove my sales team members. Please confirm any violation this ?

No issue here, and they are very welcome to keep posting here  I was just confused by the two SPRUKO icons shown in the thread summary, and had to check to make sure the forum software was working properly.

There was some issue with the forum since yesterday. What happened? Has the issue been resolved?

Envato Elements shares earnings based on item downloads, with authors earning a share of the subscription revenue. The percentage is typically lower than individual sales on Envato Market. To upload, authors need a solid portfolio, but no specific item count is required. Many find it profitable, though earnings are less predictable than market sales. It’s a growing platform, but success depends on content quality and consistency.
