How do you record your guitars? Real amps or virtual ones?

sorry for my late reply (i’ve been on a business trip to tokyo and don’t always have internet). @sunchannelmusic actually turned me on to the eleven (thanks again dude!!), and i haven’t looked back since. i used to use and mic a budda superdrive II 30 watt, and don’t get me wrong, it sounds great. but i’m lazy and i want to be able to do things as fast as possible. for some more effecty guitars or parts i still use the line6 plugins, and every once in a while amplitube or the waves stuff, but almost never the logic plugs. guitar-wise i use a parker superfly and an old esp something-or-other for a thicker tone. if you watch my remix contest vid, you can see me playing the superfly and the eleven is in the rack behind me hehe…

I use real guitar plugged in DI, and process it with IK Multimedia’s AMPLITUBE - it is greaaaaatttttt, but also Waves GTR has been amazing too for me

Thanks @StudioMonkey!
Yeah, now I’m listening to to demos of the eleven on YouTube and it really sounds great and looks convenient…
By the way, awesome track and video in the remix contest, good luck

Live guitars: Fender American Standard Stratocaster, Gibson Les Paul Studio - direct through a Steinberg UR28M into Guitar Rig 5 or Cubase 8’s amp simulators. I also like Peavey’s Revalver, but for some reason, it sometimes crashes Cubase.

Virtual guitar VSTi: Prominy V-Metal, Shreddage II, and Ample Sound Taylor Acoustic - those also run through the virtual amps mentioned.

*Why do I use the VSTi’s if I play guitar? Because I can’t get a good recording of an acoustic in my apartment and the Ample Sound acoustic guitars are phenomenal. Sometimes I want that 7-string “nu-metal” sound and the two VSTs mentioned have that where the Strat and LP don’t always cut it. AND, it’s cheaper than buying more guitars. Someday…

When I think about it, @BlueFoxMusic, I would love to add you to the discussion as I really love your guitar tone… Would you mind sharing what do you use to create your heavy guitar tone? Two of your tracks that I specifically like are ‘Uplifting rock’ and ‘Power up’

Didn’t expected that either! Thanks for sharing

I have Fender mustang amp. It works in the screen like a plugin but it sound warmer and more realistic for me. As other amp you can use it in acoustic mode with its owner sound but if you want to record directly to your DAW it has a usb direct link with the cabinet simulator. Sounds really good. And very Cheap!!!

I have Fender Mustang amp it has its own ‘soundcard’ I connect it via usb
On my cubase I see it as an audio track.
No need for any other guitar plugins.
No noise no nothing!

If you want a virtual one than Kontakt libraries are awesome as well as Steinberg Virtual Guitars
But as the above commenters said, Guitar rig, IK Multimedia’s guitar plugins, or even a free one called Guitar Legends. if you plug ur guit directly.

Thanks mate,
Haha there are so many options! But I guess that’s a good thing

Hey Guys !
The “Eleven Rack” sounds great !! I didn’t use it yet…
I Use the kemper profiler … It’s so great !! Convolution technology - Like Reverbs but only for amps and pre-amps… Well, i can make my own presets by profiling some studio amps in a few clicks and it’s in my Kemper" for life ! You can also download their new software cloud for new rigs ! It’s awesome ! BUT, Its pretty expensive though…
About Blue Fox Guitars… I actually asked him a year ago about his guitar sound - and he told me about the Kemper Profiler… But besides of the great sound, he use great synths with his guitars sounds… And makes GREAT sound design and mixing amazingly !

Thanks for sharing Tayrio,
Regarding BlueFox, Yeah he’s f**cking amazing, I’m learning a lot by trying to imitate him (and failing of course haha). I wonder if he also write and produce for major artists around the world.

"good ears can achieve everything"
That’s a relief, as I definitely won’t have enough $ to buy an Axe Fx any time soon

@HITHOTPRODUCTION Hey there, I just heard some of your tracks and your guitar sound is really really nice.
Would you mind sharing what do you use to create your guitar tone (amps/ amps sims/ guitars and so on)
Thanks

Hi! I use Bias Grid - it’s a fantastic plugin

Oh))) unfortunately I have no money to build a good room and the purchase of high-quality equipment (microphones, amplifiers, etc.) which is why I use a virtual emulator. Thank you for your question

Your tracks sound great either way :]
It’s really nice to see that nowadays, it’s possible to create quality music without having to invest a crazy amount of money

Im using the crapy Guitar Rig, but will be selling myself as sex slave to afford axe fx ii. Never heard of the eleven by avid and might get that first since it would save me from wearing a gimp mask. I heard the comparison today and perhaps the guy did not tweak it well enough, axe fx ii won that comparison in my opinion.

I love the rammfire from guitar rig, it has exactly the kind of dirt you need for rock and metal

For a lot of clean guitar sounds I will often use amp simulators, Amplitube 3, Guitar Rig.

As for distortion sounds, I think the only real way to get a great tone is through an amp. I have an Orange CR60 Amp which sounds great, and I record it with a SM57 and a 421.

I use both, an real Vox amplifier, and LePou sim with his cab sim, plus impulses from the net…
