How can you reduce banding?

Hey

How can you reduce banding in After Effects?

For thoes of you who don’t know what banding is. It is where you create a gradient or many gradients and the colours don’t murge together properly and you get “bands” of shades of the colour.

Here is my problem.

Turn up the project color depth to 16 or 32 bit. If that fails, add some grain.

Sometimes banding can be your monitor too (although this is rarely the case with extreme banding). Most LCD monitors - even the upmarket ones - only display 8 bit color.

-f.

and on the layer banding, apply Transition>Dissolve-Dither.

Remove the key frames and adjust some settings if needed.

Can’t remember where i read that.

Hope can help.

super common problem. follow the gray scale gorilla link , he breaks it down pretty well.

Yup, the grey scale gorilla does it! +1

Thanks for the info. Great help!

You can use Mov Png instead of H264 or Jpeg.
It’s big size but very good quality!

It’s very old thread. Issue discussed and solved many times since then.

It’s maybe old for you. I use to work with Broadcasting so we always use high res and 16bit so I never got this problem before but when I start lately on web I got this problem.
I solved the problem.
