Thanks everybody for your support – I must admit to being pretty excited about the news! It was rather a lot of work to get here, so nice to see it come together into the accreditation!
For the questions and comments from @volkovsound @FWDesign @cyzer @Verclub @Kirk-Monteux @CodeRevolution @johnnybd and others, our B Corp certification is simply a recognition that we’re a company that balances trying to be the best in the world and the best for the world. Of course, we’re just a small company in the big scheme of things, and by no means perfect – but doing our best!
What authors should expect is that B Corp requires us to meet various standards in order to increase our score. We’re working to grow that score (and you can see the score over here on our public B Corp profile). Those standards include things like creating greater transparency. A good example of something we did as part of becoming a B Corp was publishing Public Impact Statements (see our statements from 2018 and 2019) which we now do annually.
We think we can do more on transparency though, and this year will aim to again iterate on our impact statement.
When authors choose to sell on a platform, be it ours, or someone else’s, they are helping make that platform successful. In choosing to support Envato, thanks to the B Corp accreditation you can also be happy to know that the company you are choosing to support is working to be more environmentally friendly, to be more ethical, to treat staff and suppliers well, to contribute to charitable causes, and more.
We are always working to improve ourselves, we have plenty more to do, and will keep working on it – but I hope that authors will have some reassurance that we’re working on being a business they can be proud to support!
Thanks!
Collis
