Author Driven Pricing: ThemeForest, CodeCanyon and 3DOcean

It’s a valid point, but there’s two things to consider…

  1. You’d be missing out on support extension sales 6 months down the line.

  2. With such a wide range of items to choose from, and most of them providing 6 month’s of free support… how likely is it that somebody is going to buy an item without any support, paid or otherwise?

Hi,

talking 'bout support…

Just preparing our monthly tax documents and we noticed that in the statement the extended support sales have an author fee of 30% of the support price while the included support has an author fee of 12.5% (% of our user level). Is that correct?

Thanks, Dirk @ ThemePunch

You’re mixing apples and oranges slightly. Extended support, as far as I know, is subject to a 12.5% author fee. The 30% you mention relates to a percentage of the list price, and includes the buyers fee and the authors fee. That’s not an accurate calculation any more though, due to the fixed buyers fee, so you should be using the 12.5% rate, subtracted from the item price.

Thanks SpaceStockFootage! Btw sorry if that is not the right place to discuss please let me know and I will move it.

I am just a little lost with my statement which states same price but different author fees:

Author Fee for extended support sale 1,69
Author Fee for included support sale 0,70
Sale 6 months extended support 5,63
Sale 6 months included support 5,63

Cheers!

@migli hey mate, thanks for sharing it. However it’s confusing me. Is it calculating correctly? Seems like something wrong with calculation to me.

It’s only for CodeCanyon at the moment.

Because authors receive always 70% of the total price of a extended support pack regardless of their normal author fee rate.

@Sealord Thanks so much, understood, did not notice that before!

…and I am out again

Is it a bug or a feature? It means the recommended price seems unusually high?

Love this feature, I finally changed the prices for my items (from $27 to $37 and from $34 to $39). This better reflects the item quality and I guess it won’t affect the number of sales, let’s see

@freevision if you think calculation may not be correct can you attach a screenshot or send details please ?

@migli apologize! your tool calculate based on codecanyon right? Not for themeforest.

@freevision Yes, it’s based on codecanyon prices, but if several people are interested I can extend to other market places (I just don’t want to work on this for nobody)

@matthewcoxy can you please give me an answer on this?

I think you must convey message to the bosses that fixed price can not be practical for small priced items. like Addons. As in other market place or even directly those addons sell for lower fees then how can we simply raise our price to what you call $21???

You are encouraging us to sell addons by your own and only main products here ???

i think if you really forward this message to decision makers. no offense

thanks

Also, can anyone tell how this will work with non-exclusive authors??

So should we sell our Addons on our own website? Is that even allowed by Envato?

Exactly the same as for exclusive authors.

@matthewcoxy Why is there no official answer for my question yet?

As long as you’re not selling anything on your own site that you also sell on Envato (unless you’re a non-exclusive author) it’s fine.
