About demo content and image/video licenses

Hello there! After a 3-year development process, my social media plugin and theme are ready to sell, and I’m just creating demo content for my customers.

Every part of the theme, including images and external scripts, is under the MIT license.

But what happens if I download and use some YouTube videos and illustrated images from unknown sources for my demo website’s content? Is this against Envato’s policy? I’m not including those in my theme—just using them on my demo website and for the demo content importer.

Thank you for your answers!

Congrats on getting your plugin and theme ready—sounds like an exciting project! Now, about using YouTube videos and images from unknown sources for your demo content: It’s risky. Envato’s policy is pretty strict about making sure all content used, even in demos, has the proper licenses or permissions. Using stuff from YouTube or random sources without clear rights could definitely cause issues, and you might end up violating their terms. It’s better to stick with content that’s clearly licensed for commercial use, or even better, create your own. That way, you’re totally in the clear!

Hello! Thank you for your answer. The problem is that the product I am going to sell is a social media theme, and in my opinion, the only way to make it engaging is to use social media-like content. I fully understand and support Envato’s policy. However, it’s really challenging to create a good social media layout without using real content.

What about using movie, anime, TV series official trailers? I mean, there are lots of news website that includes those trailers in their contents.
