ThemeForest: unexpected T_STATIC in Bruno theme bruno_funtions

I’ve installed a clean WP using one-click install on my cPanel website. I’ve uploaded the Bruno theme and have repeatedly run into difficulties with the Bruno plugins install. I have deleted the site three times and installed from the beginning trying to install the plugins in various sequences.

Typical errors are:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STATIC in /home/mysite/public_html/wp/wp-content/plugins/bruno-functions/inc/revslider_addons/revslider-typewriter-addon/includes/base.class.php on line 31

and an “unexpected TSTRING” error related to a namespace in another file.

I can hack php at a basic level fairly well but I need some guidance with this.

Any ideas?

Your hosting may be running on rather outdated version of PHP. Please get in touch with theme Author for further informations:

That was it. I was using 5.4.45. When changed to latest stable version 5.7 all is well.
