Theme license - can I use a theme on multiple webistes?

can I use my purchased theme on different websites? is it a lifetime useable or not ?

You can use the same theme for different websites but for each website you have to purchase individual license. According to envato license terms each license will be valid for a single end product (domain/website).

Is it required to purchase a different license, if it is for a single Magento instance/installation?

Our Magento instance has a main store and 3 different store views - which has different domain names? The storeviews are not created as sub domains.

If there are three different domains and effectively three different stores then yes you will need individual licenses
