Christ on a bike…
This good or bad news? What do you think?
All we can do is sit and watch. Most probably nothing good for authors. Official thread is here as well as an email that just came in.
It’s not specifically bad or good, but knowing Shutterstock, I’d be leaning ever so slightly towards the bad camp! Long term though, I mean Pond5 hasn’t changed all that much since they aquired them… will probabaly be business as usual for the short term, could even be a bit of a boost to sales initially, what with their customer base.
My bet is one of the first changes is percentages go down. Maybe in some weird convoluted way but authors piece of the pie will be smaller at the end of the day.
SS still not allowing the PSD type formats. Probably will keep alive Elements for alternative file types.
I believe Elements and others will be kept active but incomes will be ridiculous level for authors.
How about themeforest and codecanyon?
Announcement from Envato CEO here:
based on my friends experience as stock photographer, that’s not a good news
Sad. Prepare for the worst.
I have just a question what will happen with Codecayon and Themeforest?
Will it be close or what?
Is envato market also acquired?
All. As far as I’m aware.
Whenever I receive an exciting news e-mail, I always get the feeling that something bad will happen to me, but I have experience that even though sales on different sites cause declines, profits return to their previous state in the long run. Of course, more work will be required. Also, if the Videohive management style continues, I don’t think there is anything to fear (I hope).
I’ve been working with Shutterstock since 2014, and I’d say that’s not good news.
bad news… as shutter stock will cut down authors earning … they have already did this in shutter stock …
Your friends are right.
