Product update notification

Can we have a feature where I can subscribe to receive an email notification when a new version of a codecanyon item is released?

The author of the item may request to send the message while updating the item ( screenshot below ) but make sure you’re receiving emails from Envato ( Go to your profile / Email settings to check it out ) - with this aspect, it’s up to “authors” if you’re receiving email or not.

For people who haven’t purchased the item. Sometimes I want to buy a script but I also want to wait for the next update before I purchase. There should be a feature where I can subscribe to receive new release of the item so I can decide if I want to buy it at that point.

You can “add” the item on your list and regularly check if there’s an update.

That is what I do now. I create collection folder and regularly check but this is very time consuming. If I can get an email when a script is updated that would be much more productive

You can get the notification once you purchase the item, not before.

I know but that is NOT what I am asking for.

It’s not possible and Envato won’t be changing their current system.

Are you an employee? How do you know that they won’t change it? It is just a feature and I am sure that it wouldn’t be rocket science to add it to their system. Furthermore, I am a customer and if they don’t listen to my need then I don’t know why they still exist!!

We respect your suggestion and we can understand your concerned but it is really not an easy job. Because Envato has Millions of Items (Products) and if Envato want to send notification to each user for each update then will need to send thousands of emails daily for each user. That’s why Envato send update notification email to the real customers only for those Items bought by the Customers.

Also update notification email will be beneficial to the customers who has bought item(s) because by getting that notification they will be able to update their environment where they used the Item.

When it will come as a service then there can be a service charge and why customer will spend money for a service which may not need for them because they didn’t purchase item.

Apart from what @mgscoder stated, no, I’m volunteer here. I have been an author at Envato over 15 years, I’m well aware of what they may change/add or not to their system.

Are you aware that sending mass emails is very cheap??? Also, are you saying that envato should ONLY be concerned about buyers and potential buyers are NOT important??? If I am the owner of envato I would rather add this feature than spend money on marketing because anyone who subscribes to an update is a potential buyer and you have only spent less than 1 cent to send him a notification. Compared to $5+ per click on the traditional advertising networks which doesn’t even guarantee the person will buy!!

Regarding your suggestion, Envato listens to suggestions of buyers and potential buyers as well, and when there is something that is suggested often and/or would significantly improve buyer experience, they do their best to implement that and make change.

As authors or volunteer moderators, we are not able to know whether they will or not implement something, so we can not with certainty claim one or the other, as we are not staff. They do read this forum and all suggestions are taken into consideration, big or small.
