Are you sure it is a WP theme? Which file is it?

You are trying to install the entire download and not just the “theme” file.

Sorry I tried to upload the entire zip file downloaded after purchase.

How does one just install the WP theme? I only see the option to install the zipped folder.
The theme folder may or may not be zipped depending on which one it is.
If it is (JUST the theme NOT the entire download from here) then install it via WP-admin or… >br>
if the the THEME folder is unzipped then you can choose between zipping it and following instructions above or uploading the UNZIPPED version via FTP.

Ok, the .zip file you downloaded from ThemeForest, unzip it, and in there you should have .zip file with the name of the theme. That is the zip file you need to upload (just to make sure, open that zip too and in there, you should have style.css file and bunch of php files).

I can’t find it. maybe it is because I bought for 15$? maybe it is not full file?
That’s not a WP theme that’s a HTML file at that price - this will not work on Wordpress
If it cost only $15, than it’s most likely html template. When you are looking for WordPress themes, make sure you are in http://themeforest.net/category/wordpress

Hi, I’m having the same problem with the Wisdom of Life NGO theme. I unzipped the original download and tried to upload the inner .zip, but still getting the no style.css error. I unzipped that file just to check, and the file is in there… so why isn’t Wordpress recognizing it? What can I do?

^ Hi pacsoc, make sure you are uploading a folder, and not a .zip file. Please follow the steps below, or watch the screencast here.
- Download the final zip file from your downloads page.
- Unzip the final zip file; you should now have a final download folder.
- Do NOT upload the final download folder. Open up the final download folder.
- Browse the contents and find the actual theme folder. If you look inside the theme folder, you will see a “style.css” file. This is how you know you have found the theme folder.
- Upload ONLY the theme folder to your “wp-content/themes” folder.
- Login to your WordPress admin panel and activate the theme.
If followed accordingly, the installation should be successful. Cheers.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was aware of the help site. I have tried suggestions off a number of forums. In regards to the above, I have followed each of those steps meticulously, and multiple times, to no avail. Any further suggestions? Thanks!
I’m sorry to hear you are still having trouble installing your WordPress theme, pacsoc. The instructions above should have worked. For now, I suggest using the theme’s own support ticket system. Good luck.
Found this in another forum that fixed the style.css issue for me.
