Licensing Questions for SaaS Use of an Envato Template

Hello Envato Community,

I’m planning to develop a project and would like some clarification about licensing rules to ensure compliance. My project involves using an HTML template or UI kit purchased from Envato, but I intend to integrate it into a SaaS model. I want to make sure I understand the licensing terms correctly before proceeding.

Details of My Project:

  1. Type of Product:
  • I am building a SaaS e-commerce solution.
  • Users will have access to a web builder tool within the platform, which allows them to design their own web pages using components (e.g., buttons, sliders, forms, layouts) provided by the system. These components will be based on the Envato-purchased HTML template or UI kit.
  1. User Interaction:
  • Users will be able to drag and drop pre-designed components (from the purchased template) to create their own pages.
  • The system will not allow users to download the template or access its raw code—it will only be used within the platform.
  1. Business Model:
  • The platform will be offered as a SaaS product with a subscription model (monthly/yearly).
  • Users will pay to use the platform, but all features will remain hosted on the platform itself. The pages they create will not function outside of the SaaS system.

My Questions:

  1. Is the Extended License Enough ?
  • Can I use the Extended License to incorporate the purchased template into a SaaS platform where users create and design their own web pages?
  • Does the “end product” definition under the Extended License cover a SaaS product like this?
  1. Does This Violate the “End Product” Definition ?
  • As far as I understand, the “end product” in Envato’s licenses refers to a deliverable designed for a single client or user. In my case, the template will be used by multiple users through the SaaS platform. Does this usage fall within the scope of the license, or would it be considered a violation?
  1. Do I Need a Custom License ?
  • If this usage is not covered by the Extended License, would I need to negotiate a custom license with Envato or the template author?
  • What is the process for requesting a custom license, and has anyone here had experience with it?

My Goal:

I want to ensure that my project complies with Envato’s licensing rules and is both legal and ethical. I would greatly appreciate any guidance from the community or Envato representatives regarding this matter.

If anyone has experience with licensing for a SaaS product like this, I’d love to hear your insights. Also, if reaching out to Envato support or the template author directly is necessary, any tips on how to proceed would be highly appreciated.

You can’t do this with Envato products - all uses (eg your customers sites) require their own license of the Envato product.

There is no multi site license available
