The hub is very nice and useful for future google searches, I think! The header new look doesn’t convince me but I must wait and browse/play with it a little bit:)
all thats missing are animated blinking eyes
+1 for change! Looking forward to this deployment and the future iterations of this new navigation idea.
Hey,
Nice work but I agree with people who agree that these too much logos right in the header are somehow distracting :S
I think a better solution is an (even) sticky vertical bar with only logos (hover: complete logo + title) that can be removed per user… (Something like the support buttons on the left side or our item switchers…)
Cheers,
Iman
VF saidJust wanted to know how long it will take to implement more deeper search filters? Isn’t that most essential?
I can’t answer the search filters timing question, but I can say that work behind this test didn’t distract the folks in the search team.
I feel sorry for FlashDen, it was the flagship website, then it took a hit from Adobe having to change it’s name from FlashDen to ActiveDen, then it took another hit from Apple, and now it’s been degraded to being the last site in the top header Just remove it completely and put it out of its misery, shame it deserves more respect
P.S. The new look is a UX / UI fail on many levels… after all the complaining about homepage improvements not happening after years, this is what Envato has been thinking of doing the whole time? Seriously. The site switcher already existed, this just looks confusing.
If you look at the “screenshot”:http://f.cl.ly/items/22441X3y3d2f2S2Z363w/header.jpg you can see how we can’t even see new files yet on that page. do you see how much clutter there is and not showing the relevant content. ie NEW FILES… come on guys! That welcome block is too big, following files section needs improvement especially if you following alot of authors… I would rather make that a TAB, which shows a whole page of new files, so you could take the whole block off the home page then. Weekly files / free file / featured author also way to big, could be reduced to half the space taken up.
IDEA… why doesn’t Envato run a competition for the redesign of home page - with all the UI / UX talent on ThemeForest I’m sure we could have an amazing and well functioning solution to the homepage which doesn’t take a decade to do. Sorry this actually becoming ridiculous.
^ agree 110%
Hi folks, thanks (really) for your feedback and thoughts. We share the same basic concerns around how busy or cluttered the design is (“logo salad” was a favourite internal phrase), but we feel this is a reasonable compromise for the purpose of a meaningful test and an incremental first iteration.

ya I think each logo should be animated, yes?
I know it’s not the people who actually are doing these updates that are to blame, these changes come from higher up… but what is clear is Envato’s Marketplace improvements are still focused on expanding the empire, instead of focusing on the communities requests and what could be improved.
STOP expanding the Envato empire, and start FINE TUNING each marketplace.
I’ve always been supporter of most of changes made by Envato but this is literally the worst ‘improvement’ you’ve ever made. I beg you not to change that header to this thing.
Hub on the other hand seems like a great addition.

How about flaming spinning logos that animate in from the edges of the page?
Seriously though, we think brands and navigation need to evolve slowly over time in really measured steps.

We wouldn’t be testing this if we didn’t think it would benefit the community overall. We’ll be watching carefully!
Envato’s already calling it a “logo salad” before putting live… so I dunno, to me that just doesn’t scream a lot of confidence
The thing is though, each marketplace - especially ThemeForest has become big enough to become it’s own entity, why confuse buyers with all the other marketplace logos. ThemeForest is so big, you could probably branch that out to a CMS only site / PSD only site / WordPress only site. Instead Envato is merging everything into one giant conglomerate. We don’t need to sell the idea to buyers how big Envato is, we need to individualize each marketplace more, to focus on content, not clutter.
Picture someone who is completely new to buying stock, and say they wanted to buy images… it will be incredibly confusing, looking at that top nav with all those options - especially the similarity between graphic river and photo dune, I mean a complete newbie would get lost in that navigation… They’d probably give up and do a Google search for another website.
I agree with having a design contest. How about someone starts it off??? (I would but I’m no designer
SUGGESTION: can we have the option to hide that hideous logo banner? For those of us that spend a lot of time here, I think it will give us headaches.
I was under the impression that the ‘Hub’ was what would help in making sure all marketplaces were brought closer together - I didn’t realize bringing the marketplaces closer meant 40px apart on everything.
Sorry guys, I’m not personally attacking developers at all here. I’m personally attacking the reasoning and the outcome only.
If you want to bring them closer then maybe create an all-in-one marketplace, and using subtle well thought out placements you could cross sell related items.
Another suggestion: since this is more for “New” users that don’t know about all of the marketplaces, why not make it a notification box that says “Thanks for checking out Themeforest. Please be sure to stop by our other sites before you leave” and then show the logo banner underneath. It can show until you click the x in the top right corner and then you never see it again and you can use the site switcher that takes up much less room… just a thought…

I’m pretty sure revaxarts will fix it
Good idea! Looking forward to see how it turns out!
If you were to keep that top nav like that, I would only suggest making the inactive marketplaces faded

Yes, that’s likely true for some buyers. There are other scenarios to explore!
