How to protect your music from illegal use on tiktok?

From what I know, distributing your music on tiktok (fb and instagram too) is in conflict with exclusivity and licensing terms on Envato; which brings me to my question - is there any way of protecting your music on the tiktok platform?

I think exclusivity is only valid for music libraries. You can’t sell your music elsewhere.
Streaming is a different story. (tiktok and Instragram might be included in Streaming)

So if you publish your music via a distributor. they might collect the money from various platforms.

That’s what i know. Correct me if i am wrong.

The doubts that I have is regarding the fact that tiktok, fb and insta are considered streaming or not. I’ve read here on the forums some time ago that if you distribute your music you should not release it on these platforms. Thanks for your answer, hoping more will chime in.

I’m bumping this again;

  1. Can you distribute music that you have on Envato to TikTok? Maybe @BenLeong can help me here. I cannot find anything related to this, I mean if the terms and conditions allow this.

  2. Fellow authors, how do you protect your music from usage without license in TikTok? Is there anything like Identifyy that works there?

Thanks

I don’t have a clue, TBH. Would be great to hear fellow author’s takes on this.

Why would you give away what you’re trying to sell?

On the whole, content ID systems are largely ineffective, and piracy is already rampant. If you post it, it will be pirated. For every use that’s properly identified and compensated, there are dozens that are not. Please don’t make it any easier for the thieves.

Well, I’m not giving it away. The idea is that there may be a lot of tiktok videos using our music without a license and there is no way you can find them all. Distributing it there adds a name to the music and you can get some royalties from it in this way (through your distributor), yet it kind of contradicts with the licensing system here on Envato. This is better than doing nothing at all. As I see it, there’s money on the table but we’re getting none, others may get it in your place and there is nothing we can do about it, yet.
Thanks for your input

The exclusivity agreement applies to competitor music libraries or similar. To my knowledge (but you may want to double check), other distribution outlets such has social media is not explicitly referenced in the terms.

The way I see it, the exclusivity agreement does not prevent you from distributing your music to Tik Tok. Let one of Envato’s lawyers argue otherwise.

Even if the terms were stricter and distributing to Tik Tok meant violating them, Envato has no enforcers and does not monitor where you music is available, so…

The best course of action is of course to have the most control possible over your assets and distributing to Tik Tok, may indeed give you more control… and revenue.
