I uploaded my small portfolio to identifyy but now i have some concerns. Some reading I’ve done suggests any music which uses sample libraries, is not allowed to be in contentID. Is this true? If so, wouldn’t that ruin the commercial sample library industry? Who would pay big money for a library if it can only be played in your bedroom studio?
Where did you read that? Don’t they mean samples taken from existing songs?
I first read that on the vi control forum but some other places as well. Im guessing its a bit of a grey area.
This is from the official Identifyy website:
3) What sort of content is eligible for uploading to Identifyy / YouTube Content ID?
A: You must be the exclusive copyright holder (or exclusive administrator of YouTube monetization rights) to the music in the files that you upload to Identifyy. Sound recordings submitted should be original, unique, and distinct, and must not contain any open or unlicensed samples, sound effects, sound bites - or purchased beats, royalty-free music, or the like.
The following examples are NOT ELIGIBLE for uploading to Identifyy:
- Content licensed non-exclusively from a third party
- Content released (at any point in time - either previously, currently, and/or in the future) under Creative Commons or similar free/open licenses
- Recordings that contain audio made available for free from Garage Band, Logic, Fruity Loops, Abelton, and other Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs).
- Public domain footage, recordings, and/or compositions
- Clips from other sources that might be considered as acceptable under fair use principles
- Video game footage (by anyone other than the game’s publisher) - Karaoke recordings, re-masters, re-records, and sound-alike recordings
- Sound effects, sound beds, production loops, and production beats
- Speeches, audio podcasts, and other non-musical spoken word material
IMPORTANT: More information about ineligible content can be found here:

Yes,i read that and that makes sense to me. I’m guessing as long as you have a license for whatever library you are using, you should be ok. I’m guessing what i can’t do is take a drum loop from, let’s say, project sam swing, and upload just that loop as my own copyright material. But if i incorporate that loop into a song with other elements such as bass, guitar, brass etc, then it should be consider a new work?
Yes that’s how I interpret it as well, however I would always try to go the extra mile and change the loop a bit to make even that your own. Not only for Identifyy but just for the sake of originality. Also because there’s a big chance someone else uses the exact same loop in the same tempo. It could lead to mis-fires in the content-ID recognition system.
That’s exactly what i was thinking. I don’t generally like using loops a whole lot cause I can never get them to fit what i invision in my head but I’m just curious where the boundary is, as far as what’s considered ok and what’s not.
So is it a bad idea to use things such as the short string runs you can find in Albion one or the percussive loop sounds in albions darwin percussion section? Those loop sounds can be tweaked to have almost infinite possibilities in sound in the software itself.
I guess with tweaking and implementation in an original composition it should be fine.
Like you mentioned earlier, it’s just to prevent people from uploading loops as their own tracks.
UPD: They just sent me the other part
I’m so glad to hear that, man!
I guess that kinda closes the loop. Two very close in time registrations to Identifyy with pretty positive outcomes (in my case unexpectedly great, actually) so far. The only difference seems to be that I didn’t receive a single complain, but that’s probably because I don’t upload music anymore (just because it doesn’t sell at all, not because I’m on strike, hahaha).
I think it’s still useful to keep this thread open so authors can read and share different experiences; I’ll be posting my upcoming reports myself from time to time.
Good luck everybody!
Speaking of experience… the last payment for July 30 did not come, they do not respond to my request for the second day, there is no letter that the money was transferred… Authors, did anyone encounter a payment problem this time? Thanks to anyone who replies
P.S. Before such problems were not, it was almost everything clearly!
Sorry, didn’t mean to start a new thread
I have the same problem as well. Answered today (after a long wait)
“We tried to send payment, but our processor blocked. If you have Payoneer send me the email address so I can give to the accounting team to try a direct payment.”
Same here at now
Yes, the problem is probably specific to the payment processor we are using.
Thank you, I will send the information to the accounting team.
Man, that’s too bad. Thanks for sharing. It’d be great if you could update the rest of us once the issue gets solved. I really hope that will be soon.
I must say that before this incident, everything was always fine. Lately, the team has been quite quick to whitelist YouTube videos if buyers contact me. And yes, I’ll let you know when the issue is resolved…
New info from Scott ( Identifyy)
The accounting team is working on getting all the payoneer payments out, it might take a little bit.
Well, that kinda sucks. It’s weird that in my case my Payoneer payment came in without the slightest problem. I really, really hope they solve that out ASAP for you and everyone in your situation.
I have the same problem.
And the same answers from Scott.
Guys, a quick question on Identifyy topic, does anybody know Identifyy’s or HAAWK inc.'s tax ID number, or a Business Number, or something like that (I don’t know what it should be for a USA company, but something like EIN, TIN, SSN, ABN, etc.)?
