"Edit button" missing under Appearance (cannot access functions.php file)

Hi, my “Edit button” in the Appearance menu is missing hence I cannot access the functions.php file to make changes manually. I have tried inactivating/reactivating the plugins but still the same problem. Would greatly appreciate help in this matter! Thanks, Andrea
