I have a license from stylemixthemes.com that i haven’t used for years and the site/domain has been down for just as long. I ready to start working on this site now, but need to activate, but the license is still connected to old site that is no longer around. Is there a way to deactivate from a central place?
Hello,
Since it’s a new site and a new project you will need to purchase a new license. Licenses are not transferable between projects. Thanks!
Wow, even if never used (gone live). Wow
According to Envato’s license terms, you are permitted to use the license for a single end product only. However, some authors offer the option to deregister the license. Here is a documentation reference from Stylemixthemes :
As @baevox posts, some authors are offering a domain change and it’s causing the problem for those who doesn’t resulting lots of complain and bad reviews.
Can you please clarify that the license/domain change is not permitted for any reason as per as Envato rules? What’s the point of the terms if anyone could bend those?
The license is for one single end product. You might be able to make an argument to the author that the project was not finished but it was registered already for the project so they wouldn’t be under any obligation to release the license.

Here is an example of a situation we recently encountered.
That was my point. Because of Envato is allowing some authors to do change the domain, when you ( as an author ) refuse the request and ask another copy to purchase, it’s causing the problem.
I hope @KingDog doesn’t ignore this one.
Thank you for your response, @ki-themes
The issue here is not just a simple domain change. If it were for the same end product, such as moving from a staging site to a live site, it wouldn’t be a major problem. However, in this case, the buyer wants to use the license on a completely different end product, which is a clear violation of Envato’s licensing terms.
This is the third time the buyer has requested a domain change. Each time, we have explained that this goes against Envato’s policies. Despite this, the buyer claims that other authors allow such changes and accuses us of being the only ones who don’t. I’ve reviewed the documentation from many authors, and all of them allow domain changes only for staging websites, not for live websites or different end products. For the first two requests, we made exceptions, clearly stating that we would not permit such practices again. Now, the buyer is once again asking to change the domain for use on another end product, and we have firmly declined, advising them to contact Envato directly if they have any doubts regarding licensing policies. Unfortunately, the buyer has resorted to threatening us with fake reviews to get their way.
What is most disheartening is that Envato’s response time for support tickets is often slow, and some users exploit the rating system to manipulate authors. This particular buyer hasn’t even renewed their item support for years, yet they are still allowed to leave ratings, which further exacerbates the issue.
That was your fault. You should’ve rejected the offer from the beginning.
Keep the conversations and contact Envato support to report the buyer and ask for removal for the comment/review.
Write a proper reply to the review section.
We have already reported this issue to Envato support, providing the necessary evidence, and are currently awaiting their response. The reason for posting here is that I recalled your comment in the forum thread regarding users threatening negative reviews to justify using the same license code for different end products. I hope this will serve as evidence of the challenges we authors face and motivate Envato to take action to address such issues.
I have actually created a ticket and referred this thread that it needs to be cleared. I will keep you informed but as you know, support is too slow, may be in 6-10 days, if lucky.
That’s great to hear. Envato should take steps to address such situations. Buyers sometimes misuse ratings to pressure authors into providing item support after their support period has expired or to demand free customizations. It would be helpful if Envato introduced a flagging option, similar to the one for comments, allowing such ratings to be hidden until they are reviewed by the Envato team.
They don’t have enough “staff” for marketplace for the basic support, adding another job “reviewing the items” would take way longer…
Same respond. Contact support if you receive a rating related to “domain change” we will check and remove the review/rating and comments.
They could implement a system where, if flagged, a support ticket is generated and the review remains hidden until the ticket is addressed. The delay in responding to support tickets is one of the reasons why some individuals misuse ratings for personal gain.
The support team has already removed the rating and provided me with the following response:
