What about the other categories in Themeforest (HTML, CMS, Marketing …) ?
Please get them back to the old sort (newest items) , Our items doesn’t have visibility and sales from the start of the experiment.

Just make “New in town” the first block. As simple as that.
You’ve tried both Trending & Weekly Best Sellers as first block, try the newest too. -
Weekly best threshold used to be ~50 sales, now it’s 35. So I suspect when you say conversion is improving (even for best sellers). Can you share data on this.

Hi @steve_lam What are Envato’s plans about the massive drop of new items sales / visits / conversions? As you may have seen in this and the other topic, several Power Elite Authors complained about that with this new best sellers default sorting, their new items had performed really poorly.
For example, in the New items of HTML category, only 7 Items had sales our of 30. And 5 out of that 7 have only 1 sale!
Also, if you check this week Wordpress top sellers, you’ll see that you only need to have 37 sales to enter, when in the past you needed at least 50. That’s a huge drop!
Can’t you guys just go back to Newest items by default? If you are worried about quality, there’s a lot of steps that you can take besides burring new items.

But unfortunately this is not exactly the reply that most authors here are waiting for.
Thanks again for all your comments and suggestions in this thread, and we understand your frustration with some of the changes that have taken place. Please know that the teams are working to help iron out some of the issues.
The change from New Items sorting to Best Selling sorting is your biggest issue.
Don’t iron it, just revert it back. That’s it.
Please hear the community of authors. New items now are not selling at all.

@steve_lam, please could you activate the “Show More” button by default? The visibility of categories is down by a tone anyway, why do the buyers need to take an extra step to see all categories?
It’s better to show all categories on page load, not have to click an extra button to see them all, like in the HTML example.

@steve_lam There is many problems with the current switch it’s extremely hard for people to figure out they are looking at the best selling items pills only can’t solve that what about the url parameter ?sort=sales maybe it will help a little to redirect so people understand ?

@steve_lam you can experiment for years but a small child is clear that Newest Items it must be under default search and everything else has to be below it, otherwise there is no future for Market…there is now sale and traffic is terribly low. If you want to improve Market and you do not see this I do not know what to say…

Last couple of years, whatever changes Envato made, be it good or bad, they never reverted back to the original. So, don’t expect that Newest Items Filter is going to return. It is gone for good.
What you need to think as Author is how you plan to deal with this.

Envato and what about the idea of letting users to choose which default sorting they want to use? I expect that most of the customers have already their accounts, so why do not make an option for buyers to choose the “Newest items”, “Trending items” or “Best sellers items” based on their preference as their default sorting choice. I think this could solve many problems which are currently happening. And also it could make buyers more familiar with the filters.

english is not my first language so please bear with me on this one.
when you continued this experiment you did on the ground of 5% growth overall & 50% increase in WordPress themes conversation rate. The data available to us authors i.e popular items tab there is no significant increase in sells for those items. But if you see all the new items suffering drastically.
this new pill design with default sort to best sellers will take away the exposure of new items.
We already had a place for best sellers & it worked for so many years with healthy competition, now the system is rigged against new items.
For the company that works totally on the internet with today’s data collection tools “in a few weeks” is a vague answer.
please answer is there any plan for going to "new items " as default sort in this new pill design testing before closing this thread.

The answer I think is already there. We are planning to move to another market, develop more items to sell in other markets for comparison. If it is really better we will leave the envato market.
We and some other authors have also emailed the managers of other markets about envato’s change, hoping they will have other policies to attract authors and customers switch to their market. Customers can experience new items instead of obsolete items.
