Where/ How do I find the latest vesrion of ListingPro Theme
Go to Downloads section on your dashboard and find “Listing Pro” Theme and click download to get the latest version
Please elaborate a bit more. Short answers to a Newbie are not cool. Which Dashboard are you talking about?
I do have a Download Button in my Envato account where I purchase the LP Theme. Only now after several days have I learned that I must click on that SAME download button, and in doing so it will give me the Latest Update. Now that I have found info totally by accident navigating 3 times around the Globe, once again as a newbie, I have to ask: which option do I choose from the dropdown window?
Let me know as I am keen to continue developing so I can then purchase a second License for my next project. But I need this first project to be working before I get my second. Thanks you - Jean
Hi @JeanLive247,
At the time of update theme you shouldn’t deactivate the old version for trying to install the update version. Just you should to download the latest version and then upload the update version manually using ftp.
Make sure you select the “Installable WordPress file only” option from your from Envato Market Downloads page. If you select “All files & documentation”, you will need to unzip the file and then locate the installable theme file within it. Luckily most developers clearly label their files, so it should be pretty easy to find.
One click update features option:
You can use Envato Market WordPress Plugin to get auto update features. This plugin helps customers receive updates to their premium wordpress Themes & Plugins purchased through Envato Market (ThemeForest & CodeCanyon).
you can download the plugin from here:
Note: Better to keep a full backup before doing the update.
Thanks
Thanks for all comments and guidance. Here is a typical example of a major part of updating that I have concerns about. The Child Theme. In the subject of ‘UPDATE’ why is it nobody says anything about Child Themes. Especially when everybody seems to indicate that the Child Theme consists of all your customization. Everybody says - ‘Download’ they don’t say things like " if you don’t use a Child Theme then its okay - Download! … or they don’t say: Hey if you are using a Child Theme be carful, WATCH OUT, you got to do a different procedure, you got to first take on another arbitrary Theme just to do this procedure,. then you can delete existing Theme and allow your Child Theme to hang around, then upload your Updated ListingPro Theme, do this, then do that, and only then can you upload your Latest Update, and when that is done you have to deactivate plugins, do a deletion, afterwards re-activate plugins, and reinstall the one you deleted, then go to somewhere and click on Permalinks … and then you can check if your site is back to normal as it was before the UPDATE. Nobody mentions anything about a Child Theme … not picking on ki-themes, but that suggestion is a typical situation that I have experienced.
Too easy to just say Click Download and you get the latest version. Great … but carry-on with the advice! Talk about complications when there is a Child Theme involved. How many people out there just do what you say 'Click download and then Upload - Wham … all their customization is wiped out!
MSGCoder wenet the extra mile - Great MSG thanks, however even with all that in-depth explanation, even with the speech about Envato Market WordPress Plugin, there is no mention about Child Themes. What must we do with the Child Them hanging around … delete it?, when to activate it? do changes to plugins with new version from Child Theme or from ListingPro theme, do we upload a new Child Them, and dump the first one? Do we keep the first one? These are all questions and fears that us Newbies have. The complications are still there as there are so many conflicting methods. Some say delete your existing LP Theme, others say don’t, deactivate, delete , reactivate, re-install .
I see heavy confusion all round as the Authors themselves don’t help on a personal level, they leave all the brainstorming and fault-finding to random moderators like you and your colleagues. Some will be good and give good service, others don’t care. and I am noticing that people are getting peeved off. Look at all my emails and appeals and you will see how I have to beg for advice. I have to squeeze the information out. It took me almost 3 days to realize that I just have to click my download button in my Envato account. You mustn’t think us Newbies know that secret. I mean I always thought that that was my Download Button for the specific purchase of my one Theme … ListingPro. Why would I even think for one moment that embedded inside that button, lies a ‘Refresher’ … a ‘Latest Update’. How’s about inserting a small sentence next to the button saying: “Click here for Latest Theme Updates”. Then us Newbies would be well informed End-of-Subject.
So back to my Query: How do I do a proper UPDATE procedure, when one must understand that with my existing LP Theme, I have worked with a Child Theme from the get-go! So now that you know that, please inform me WHAT YOUR WAY OF UPDATING MY THEME IS.
I want an update method from your organization, not a thumb-suck from connections all over the World who do not respond. What is the official method to UPDATE LP Theme, without losing customization in Child Theme. I need to know because going forward, there will be more and more updates and one needs to have a method that works because ‘moderators’ wont work - most the time they are in conflict with each other.
Secondly … please give me a LP Theme that works, so that the very reason I bought the Theme was for its Listing ‘Features’ facility which I shall send in a pdf attachment if I can find out where to send it. Or tell me of another Theme you can ‘exchange’ and recommend that has the same basic facility as ListingPro.
Remember, it is Newbies that initially are the buyers of Themes. And like me, as they learn more and more they buy more Themes. So please don’t laugh-off Newbies.
Thank you and in your replies … don’t be scared to speak about CHILD THEMES.
Kind Regards
JeanLive247
Really the right person to ask this to is the author of the theme who will not only be a WP expert but also know any nuances of the theme itself.
That also said (this is not aimed specifically at this case, but more generally and speaking as a buyer), as with anything in life, would this type of situation not be best for newbies to hire a freelancer who is an expert and will ensure things are done right?
