I found out that the author of my theme is no longer present on the Envato Market webpage nor is the support email that I used a few years ago active. So once something like this happens, does one have to necessarily redo the website from scratch?
Or hire a freelancer to help update/maintain it
I deal with web pages etc. but not with php-based themes. It seems a bit absurd to me that if someone abandons then the web no longer works. I know perfectly well how to make a web from scratch but at the time I liked this theme and bought it. In short, you pay but you use it for a limited time and then you have to redo it from scratch.

First of all, the items you’re getting from Envato are 100 times cheaper than developing them yourself by hiring someone. Each item requires money, effort, and time to create, and maintaining these projects is challenging if the authors don’t receive enough sales. Some authors abandon their projects not because of lack of profit, but because they might not even recoup the cost of developing them.
Regarding “Redo from Scratch” – no, you don’t need to redo the entire work. The issue may be related to changes in new PHP versions or server configurations. You should hire a PHP developer who can help you resolve the problem.
