Using 3.5mm connection on headphones

I just got new Sennheiser 58X Jubilee headphones for a home studio I’m building and was wondering if it’s okay to use the 3.5mm jack in the meantime?

Someone told me that using the 3.5mm jack instead of the 1/4 inch connector could hurt the quality of the headphones (something about breaking them in?) and I didn’t know if this was true.

I think someone is pulling your leg. I can’t imagine there is anything in physics to back that up. Your 3.5mm jack will work perfectly and your headphones won’t suffer any quality loss. Your acquaintance is probably one of those fools who believe gold plated connectors on HDMI cables makes a difference in picture quality…
