I run a WordPress website for a customer with a good German hoster, installed is the theme

Almost two years ago, I used it to create a beautiful and attractive website that runs smoothly.
The only problem I’ve had recently is that I can no longer save the start page once I’ve made a change. It doesn’t matter whether I use Elementor, for which the theme and template are programmed, or the WordPress editor.
I get an error message: “Server error (500 error)”.
This ONLY happens on the home page, which is a bit more elaborate and contains a few animations, but not on any other page.
When I built the site, saving it still worked without any problems.
My hoster, with whom I tried to solve the problem by phone, suspects that the memory requirement for saving is too high, higher than that included in the hosting package.
In my opinion, this is also confirmed by the fact that saving worked without any problems when he temporarily doubled my memory capacity.
So my question to you now:
What could be the reason why saving suddenly requires too much memory and fails? Is it due to an update of the theme or a plugin, scripts that now require more space than before? How can I fix this without having to redesign the website?
