Some thing happened to Envato?

Is that a problem?

One of the best selling wordpress theme is now priced at $25 which is just ridiculous… I was always happy paying full price and sometimes I actually felt 59$ was little low for the quality I have recieved… However, with everyone slashing their prices, I guess I will just hold on before I make the next purchase. unless an author promises that there won’t be any price cut for a theme in the future.

I also feel Envato Elements is another factor for why sales might be lower for authors. I hope these dumb prices wont drive down envato quality. It will be great if envato can draw a baseline for prices under different categories.

  • A lot of low-quality items is a problem. I can explain why if needed.
  • The absence of statistics and transparency on Envato Elements is a problem.
  • Review time is not reduced, but you promised to reverse (after a series of innovations)…is a problem too.
  • Falling number of sales is a problem (whole market).
  • Your advertising another of your new projects, while potential customer wants/choose an item to buy on ThemeForest (for example), is a problem.

@SpaceStockFootage Is it enough problems to talk about it?

3rd best month in 2 years for me. All good here.

review time is 3-4 days. that gives us quicker feedback and a faster workflow/turnaround.

So what? You suggest me start writing a music or something? We don’t discuss AJ there. Please take a look at the tags.

We added a new Magazine theme yesterday, got only two sales till today. The visits in first day - 762 and today 279, I repeat again, this is a WordPress theme not a html. Also in all item page, Electus got on 3rd after about 20 hours!!!

This is more than ridiculous, we worked more then a month to the theme, then several weeks to get it trough the review system, and our item gets removed from the main page after few hours.

Seems like it’s time to say good bye to envato…

My mistake. I thought it was in AJ forums. I still hate this forum setup. Can’t get used to it.

No problem and sorry if I sounded rude. I still practice my English language skills

How many days did it take, approximately?

I am not saying that sales are bad for everyone as if that was the case then there would have thousands of replies in this thread but there is certainly something wrong with the market. Things doesn’t seems all ok. Our whole life revolves around this market for last few years but suddenly some of the authors including me are thinking about reshaping their business to keep up with the normal life. I admit that Envato gave us the chance to work the way we love,we all fulfilled our dreams or were just getting started but in last one year so many sudden changes were just put in to action without taking sufficient views of the authors. If someone here doesn’t share the same thoughts like me than no offence but those changes surely affected the sales.

If you experiment a huge traffic, but no sales, just search for your items on wa***z websites and you’ll be surprised…

In the last days, I do not know why, there was a huge increase in Envato items uploaded on such websites.

Use FreshKiller to send DMCAs to these websites or use their forms to fill DMCAs. It will work, at least for me it worked.

Although the sad part is that today you send them DMCAs and tomorrow they upload the item back on another sharing website. It’s an infinite fight…:cop:

Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who believe that the code should be free that is why they do this. Perhaps for them the programmers do not need to eat, the programmers just eat code and fresh air… :nerd:

Yes for me it is a problem. Now buyers are more confused about what to buy. With fixed pricing buyers used to come to the market, search for their required keywords, gets the results, walk through them and purchase the item they find the best suited for their project. So in all whatever they purchase there was a surety that they have purchased it for the right price and nothing can be purchased cheaper than that. But now they are confused with the different prices for the same kind of item, they are sorting the search results with price high to low, low to high and getting amazed by seeing the difference. In all this is making them postpone their decision, losing faith in the market, searching again and again to get the cheapest item or the most expensive item. This is the reason why we all have good traffic these days but that is not converting as it used to be.

We launched our second WordPress theme on the market today. It took us about 3 months to develop it. And, at the risk of sounding arrogant, we really think this theme could have been a best seller. However, later in the day, another theme with a similar potential was launched at $19. And now, at the end of the day (according to our time zone), the other theme has sold 10 copies while we stand at 2. We’re forced to compete with the author by lowering our price.

It is really unfortunate, not just for us, but for the entire community. The other theme is being offered by an elite author. It seems like they can afford to stay afloat by earning pennies for a month or so. We can’t. But we have to.

Now, does Envato think that authors like us would spend months developing a quality theme? No. Absolutely not.

Do they think their quality team can stop authors from producing low-quality products? No. In fact, they will be forced to approve low-quality themes because that’s all they will receive.

How long would power elite and elite authors stay unaffected? Not too long. They will have to come up with new products at some point of time. That’s when they will feel the heat and maybe burn like us.

How long can Envato shield itself with the fixed buyer fee strategy? I guess it doesn’t need to be explained.

Lastly, as one of my friends pointed out above, customers will eventually feel the loss in quality and leave the marketplace.

Instead of boosting competition within the marketplace by setting a minimum price for each category, Envato has converted such a great community into a battleground.

I wonder how exciting it would have been to spend months creating a better product than my peers’ and still be able to garner their respect. That’s how a community works, doesn’t it? @matthewcoxy @collis @BenChan @SpaceStockFootage

@SuperAvis I completely agree with your words!
@matthewcoxy @collis @BenChan @SpaceStockFootage please, remove ADP for WP. You’re killing the quality of items, our sales and motivation.

@SuperAvis Well said!
This ADP and envato elements is really hurting the ThemeForest authors, and they plan to launch envato sites as well, and guess where they will advertise it…
I can’t believe how many low quality themes are approved on ThemeForest lately, but on envato elements are picked just the best items.
And that guy with the theme with 120 demos priced at $19 is unbelievable. This is not marketing at all. It’s just lack of fair play. At this price, 100 sales means like 14 sales with the theme priced at $59. All he will have is a lot more support requests, but other authors will lose like 70 customers, and the uglier part is that envato earns the same.

This ADP gives option to cheat with the fake reviews and sales, every author have seen a 3hour old theme with 3 sales and 3x5 star reviews ( have reported envato several themes, like that but they don’t care, just copy&paste answer that they will check it and that’s all) . Now you can set a item price 1$ buy 100 copies of it, and set the price back, additionally the item will get in the weekly popular files list, this is just a question of time when someone will do it…

If 100 sales are enough (as I know it’s more than enough) for that mission, then this means $1237,5 (Author with 37,5% Envato fees) to get to the Weekly WordPress popular files list.
Now we know the price.

You can’t price an item $1. The minimum price you can set is (fixed buyer fee + $1) = Your price.
That is $5 (4+1) for site templates and $13 (12+1) for WordPress themes for examples.

FAQ | Glossary of Terms: the price paid for the item license to the author of that item is called the Item Price.

You probably confused in definitions. $1 in his example is an Item Price. So he can set an item price for $1.
