GREAT project, but the website structure is really annoying.
Hey Deep_Blue, no immediate plans, as Collis said, this is a test so we have opted for a simple browse experience for now. We have some ideas on how we could evolve Unstock but for now weāll be looking closely at the analytics and wait to see how the test goes.
Hey Acoda, thanks for reporting this - are you able to let me know which image had this issue?
I like the look of it but the lack of a Search capability makes it inefficient to use.
Looks great, good work!
One piece of UX feedback though: when visiting a collection page, trying to click on the category links
at the bottom is like trying to catch a fly in mid-air!
Example: http://unstock.envato.com/collections/a-way-of-life-5306817
Because of the lazy-loading of images, everytime you scroll to the bottom of page and see the links, they fly
away before you have a chance to get to them⦠until you reach the end of the collection!
Also, a big +1 for search functionality. This is a great improvement on photodune, though!
Actually, I reckon each marketplace could benefit from a curated list of items, a way to feature more than a few iteams on the homepage. Have a couple of 100s, maybe 1000 items showing in a quick lazy load grid like this, then linking to their item page on the marketplaceā¦
Actually, anyone could potentially do this with the envato API i guess - could be a nice project for a ReactJS app
Can you tell i have ADD by now?
I really like the idea of high quality manually curated collections. I have nothing to say about UX and all that, I will leave that for others From the perspective of finding new inspiration, Iāve quickly found multiple files that I will be purchasing. Already purchased one actually.
I would love to see this idea implemented for Audio too, but keeping the licenses as we couldnāt really boil it down to one. We have lists now, but the staff picks have never been curated so carefully like these photos have been.
Good stuff!
I have ADHD too!
We thought so too, when we were making Unstock
Since you yourself are calling this āone big test,ā as the former head of marketing for a $20 million a year company, allow me to offer a few personal insights.
While I understand what youāre trying to convey - that Unstock is somehow different from other stock photo sites - leading with the negative - āUnā - is, well, unappealing. A subliminal turnoff. (In the 1970s, 7-Up had a famous campaign calling itself āThe Un-cola.ā But that was then and this is now, and anyway, it was one campaign, not the product itself.)
And while weāre there, the name Unstock is itself disingenuous since, obviously, what youāre offering IS stock photography. Implying otherwise doesnāt make it so.
Additionally: The adjectives used in the promotional banner struck me as odd. Unconventional is OK, but āUnmissableā? Is that even a word? How about āUnforgettableā? Thatās a word, and even has positive connotations as the title of a famous, well-loved song. āUnrealā, while in general a suitable word, lacks the necessary context to make it pop. Unparalleled. Unsurpassed. Unprecedented. Unbeatable.
Unstock: Unforgettable images. Unbelievable price.
Just my 2 cents.
@collis, how about doing design tweaks to the existing PhotoDune (and VideoHive footage) libraries, instead of branching out to yet another website?
VideoHive is even older than the PhotoDune, and they both are CRYING for some love for so many years now.
Awesome idea, admire the simplicity and beauty
@Typps thank you !
For some odd reason I read it first as Ustock no Unstock!! and I didnāt look at the name again, after you mentioned it I realized that it is Unstock and now I feel that the name is Unpleasant.
How you can test selling potential if none of the images have the watermark?
All images are available āfor freeā with resolution big enough for web usage.
Now I event do not want to be there because it means less sales on other stocks.
Is it on purpose or you will fix it?
Youāve given me an idea, create a stock site where you buy stock on credit and call it iouStock.
So where is this now? Nothing for 2 weeks on here.
Iād like to chip in my 2 cents worth:
The "Un"stock name is a little too cute and a tad cheesy, to be honest. And itās disingenuous. I mean, I understand youāre trying to go against the traditional stock agency grain, but it is still stock, right?
Iām a photographer interested in contributing photos, but without watermarks on the images, I wouldnāt even consider it. Especially with how large you display them when clicked. Donāt get me wrong, I think the interface is great, and larger images is always better. But they need watermarks for sure.
Also, being able to search for specific photos or types of photos really is a must.
Since it is just a test, maybe you guys had planned to add both the watermarks and a search function, but if you could clarify that for the community, it would be helpful.
Lastly, the way I read the fee schedule, your $5 price per photo means non-exclusive authors receive $1.88 per sale, is that correct? Yikes.
I think no watermarks is on purpose. Why not add it if you already have them on photodune?
I just donāt get it.
Iād like to think Envato is taking this new Unstock service seriously, but how can the community take it seriously when youāre awol about it on this forum for so long?
I realize youāre testing it right now, but some feedback and responses to our questions would be very much appreciated.
Cheers.
Hi everyone,
Thanks for your feedback and suggestions. As weāve said Unstock is a test we are taking everything into consideration as we continue to monitor and review it. We donāt intend to put a search experience on Unstock for this test, the library is not big enough yet to warrant that, weāve focused on an elegant browse experience for now.
The minimal watermark was a deliberate decision to ensure that we gave the images the best chance to shine, however we understand this is a concern for photographers and we are currently reviewing our approach to watermarks to address these concerns. I hope to have an update for you early next week.
