The first I heard of AI training on P5 was when I received a small payment for it. Opting out was never offered.
You can opting out on your profile. But since then there was not any more payement from that Dataset earning, so
Terrible news .
Over the last 1-2 years, Shutterstock’s payments to authors have dropped significantly, compared to the current payments to Envato or Adobe.
The majority of stock community members have not considered Shutterstock “the most interesting and profitable platform” for a long time, due to the steady downward trend of profitability.
The most valuable resource in this industry, is not content, it’s us — the authors.
And we work not only for creative recognition, but also for monetary motivation. For many content makers, Envato and other marketplaces are a full-time job and a way to feed their families.
So of course it begs the questions:
- Will the percentage of royalties to authors change or not?
- Wouldn’t there be an issue with duplicate content, as the guys making videos/photos upload their content to both Envato and Shutterstock. Will it be possible to upload the same content to both marketplaces?
- For those who came from Twenty20, there is still a limit of 200 images per month. This is very low and it would be great to remove this limit
I deleted my profile shortly after receiving the payment.
I knew something is going on…
I have just a question what will happen with Codecayon and Themeforest?
Also now would be a good time for all Elements authors to delete their profiles to show Envato that we are not stupid.
It won’t happen, same happened with Motion Array and Artlist It is what it is …
So it was true that Envato was a sinking ship. From what I’m reading about Shutterstock, this isn’t good news.
I have just a question what will happen with Codecayon and Themeforest?
Will it be close or what?
Thanks for the transparency guys!
I have a question regarding author exclusivity policy and fees for ThemeForest. Will this change?
I’m asking because Shutterstock doesn’t seem to be requiring exclusivity.
Non-exclusive fees are ridiculously high. Making them the same as exclusive ones will help us survive longer.
I am really unhappy with it, shutterstock is worst stock website, everything dies it acquires. I hope there will be light at the end of the tunnel
Now we know why Envato wasn’t investing in their Market platform for years, apart from the “fancy” Elements banner and tab, so many features are outdated at the marketplace or simply lacking for author/user conveniences, they simply were looking someone to sell it off to and don’t bother improving it or work on attracting new customers by themselves
Hope to remove all my tracks before they can access my music. What a disappointment.
Will you let us know if any changes of the author’s agreement will happen?
Is Envato Market also acquired? or Envato Element only ?
whole Envato
If I recall correctly some of first comments when the new CEO was appointed was that Envato is going to be sold eventually, but I never imagine it could be shutterstock that buys it (I didn’t even know they are so big to be able to do that)
I don’t think it’s a good news but time will tell. For sure I don’t expect anything good from that.
I don’t know if this is good or bad, but with the current situation of the Envato Marketplace platform, I think this experiment with Shutterstock will be worth experiencing on how it shapes up.
Shutterstock fully acquires the entire Envato including Marketplaces, Elements and other subsidiaries.
why would they close it? they don’t have any other service like that so it’s not competition, it’s money making machine
And how it will work exactly there is no info on it…
