Great comment! For context, I currently look after the Elite Authors group on Envato Market, and there’s a definite turning point between thinking about yourself as a creator (How can I make better items?) and starting to think like a brand (How can I refine how my business operates?).
I don’t mean to discount item quality at all - without it, nobody will sell many items 
But it’s more of a hurdle requirement: the key differentiator tends to be how well people understand their promotion and marketing once they’re competing against people who are at a similar level of quality.
Consistency in adding to your portfolio also plays a huge part, as you’ve seen: it lets regular customers know when to go back and look for new items, either on Market or on your social channels. Even without any kind of “new item” boost in searches, there’s a long tail effect at play there: every item you add will increase the visibility (and potential sales) of every other item in the portfolio.
