I’m very far from being the best seller of all times and a market genius, but these are my impressions:
1- AJ is, by all my tests at least, one of the most profitable royalty free music libraries in the world right now. This means that the arrival of new composers with a great, serious job are going to increase everyday.
The bad side of this is that it is more likely that the sales will dilute.
The good side is that more options, especially the good ones, increases AJ’s value on the market, attracting more and more buyers (including the “big ones”).
Another good side of that is that it is almost impossible to stay “on the same level” and survive for a long time here! This forces all of us to get better, study and invest in our craft. I’m far from being the best composer of all time, but i’m certainly a lot better now than i was when i came in. And this “competition” for buyers, the tips and tricks in the forums, the hard rejections and, of course, the sales, helped a lot on that!
If this market is oversaturated, for me is a sign that it works and i should stay here!
2- I have only two years here and about 1 year “taking it seriously”. My impression is that the “quality over quantity” is stronger than ever during this time! Nothing generates more sales for me than a song that i am really proud of! That i enjoy making, listening and had fun during the process. (Sometimes doesn’t work like this, is true, but in most times works!)
I’m worrying less and less with views and exposure compared to the quality of my itens. That’s why i am constantly deleting something that didn’t sell well and / or i’m not proud of! Of course views are very very very important part of the business, but i’m trying to work harder to make every single viewer really counts. Be it just one or a million people.
Even because I realized (and the active content announcement seemed to confirm) that sales generate more sales. This is the best marketing, in my opinion!
3- I had a moment when i lost the fun of making music and putting here. It was just a job, and my desperate to generate sells and pay my bills.
Wait a minute, was not precisely because of this that I wanted to get rid of the other jobs?
Don’t get me wrong, we need sells and they are the biggest reward for our hard work, but the fun is the immediate payout.
And i want a full withdrawal, people!
4- I work as freelancer to add to the sales here, this is helping me to continue working over here with joy, without rush, without “sales obsession”, without “quantity over quality” and with a good mentality.
And i’m really excited about the future because a good - peaceful - mind can produce very inspiring, motivational, uplifting, upbeat, heroic, epic music. hahahaha
I’m not the best composer in the world and I’ll never be, but I’ll keep working with joy for it.
