I’ve made a theme for Wordpress. Unfortunately, it is not good enough. I spent a lot of time on this and I can not imagine just throw it away. Here’s the message from the reviewer:
"Thank you for your submission. We have completed our review of “Elisabete - Minimalistic WordPress Photography Theme” and unfortunately we found it isn’t at the quality standard required to move forward, and you won’t be able to re-submit this item again.
Here is the comment from your Envato Quality team reviewer:
Unfortunately ‘WordPress’ has higher standards in terms of aesthetics. An approved design in other categories does not guarantee an approval under ThemeForest’s WordPress category. Your design needs significant improvements in terms of aesthetics and attention to details.
As higher quality items become available in the marketplace, approval requirements will increase to maintain appropriate marketplace quality.
While I’d be able to provide feedback as to how to get this approved, I can only do after it has crossed a certain threshold, quality wise. I’m sorry to say this isn’t there yet."
- Why is it hard rejected right away? I can work on it.
- What can I change? Is it really so weak? I have no idea where to start any changes and which pages require them the most. Maybe you can help me?
Frustrating day
And here’s a demo https://elisabete.greathemes.com/
Thank you very much…
Hi,
I have see your item demo my opinion rejection reason is design quality you have improve your item design quality, typography, hierarchy etc but main reason is design quality you have to submit more unique and aesthetic design for approving item on themeforest.
Hope you understand.
Thanks!

Hey. Thank you for your response. I know it’s about aesthetic issues because the reviewer wrote to me. The problem is that it’s hard for me to assess what to change …
I understand about it.You can get in help from qualified designer or experts hope your item will approved. Another way you can make partnership with PSD designer.
- low contrast between text color, button color, And the background
-
Bad fonts
-
nav bar style is too basic (not simple but basic)
-
inconsistency when it comes to the design ( your website has this rectangle-ly design in terms of the navbar, section separation, images, forms and mixing curvy circles seems out of place) note: you can mix the shape tendency your website has, it is just hard to pull.
+increase visual hierarchy.
+use more creative section separation instead of section on top of section like brick blocks
+footer is too basic and there are tons of this design on the marketplace already
+unnecessary white space
this is just a quick scan, there might be code related issues or other design issue take your time and pay attention to the details
best regards.

Thank you for a feedback!
While you were already advised to solve some design issues and inconsistencies, I think you should try to go for another design conception for “Photography” category. With all due respect, even if you solve the current issues I don’t think that it will help you to get approved.
If you research this category, you will see that there are lots of unique, minimal, black & white themes that fit better for photographers and creatives. The primary focus of those themes are:
- The portfolio itself: photos and videos and not a site UI design or accent colors (that’s why b&w style works best here)
- Some way of a portfolio presentation (albums, sliders, grids etc)
- Cool interactions and animations which makes a theme unique.
So if you decide to give another try in this super complicated WordPress category, I recommend you to research the latest trends on TF and directory sites (like Awwwards) which may give you some new ideas for your next design conception.
Thank you for your feedback. I’ll think about it all !
