ThemeForest Email Campaign Item Nominations: JAN/FEB/MAR 2023

Envato’s marketing team are looking for best-selling and top trending items from ThemeForest & CodeCanyon to feature in upcoming email-based sale campaigns.

A limited selection of items will be scheduled at your nominated discount of between 30-50% and promoted in an email to an engaged audience of over 500,000 web and code users.

NEW: In addition to individual email-featured items, we will be testing curated discount collections! These are a small selection of sale items, displayed on a dedicated sale filter page that is promoted to our email audience. By nominating your item(s) below, you will also be eligible for selection in this new promotional opportunity.

Items featured in campaigns receive a significant amount of exposure, which can flow on to more people viewing your profile, portfolio, and the other items you have for sale. Items will also be visible in the sale search filter, and may be promoted by affiliates.

How does it work?

  • Step 1: Read all the information contained in this forum post. If you have any questions, just ask us in this posts’ thread.
  • Step 2: Nominate your item(s) using the form below, by telling us;
    • Your username, email and the item you wish to nominate
    • Your chosen discount between 30-50%, that your item (if selected) would be set at for a 7 day period, during January, February or March 2023.
    • Any anticipated periods during which you are planning to schedule discounts for the nominated items throughout January, February or March 2023. This is to assist with managing consistency with our Discount & Promotional Pricing Guidelines
  • Step 3: Envato will review all nominations and contact selected authors with the 7 day campaign period that their item has been allocated to go on sale, at their nominated discount.
  • Step 4: You have the opportunity to accept or opt-out of the campaign dates proposed.
  • Step 5: If you have accepted, promotional prices (as determined by you through the nomination process) are automatically applied to your item at the confirmed start time, and will be returned to the original price automatically at the end of the 7 day period.

It’s very important that the 30-50% discount is off your normal item price. Envato will be reviewing each nominated item carefully, and only those with a clear, stable and consistent normal price will be selected (consistent with our Pricing Promotion rules below, among other things).

What are we looking for?

  • You must be the author of any items that you are nominating
  • Items must be high quality, presented well, and up-to-date
  • We are looking for current high performing items that have;
    • Star rating of 4 stars or higher.
    • Consistent high sales performance for the last 1-3 months

NOTE: A small number of placements are available for January, February and March, and only the authors of selected items will be contacted. If you are not contacted and your items meet the selection criteria, there will be future opportunities to nominate your items again.

Campaign Discount

For this campaign we’ll feature selected items that are at a discount of 30% to 50% Off from their normal (consistent) sale price.

Discounts will be;

  • Set for a period of 7 days during Jan/Feb/March 2023. Authors of selected items will be contacted prior with details of discount start and end time and are able to accept or opt-out of the campaign dates.
  • Scheduled automatically by Envato to start on the first day of the email, and return to the original price at the end of the 7 day campaign period.

How is this different from larger sale campaigns, like Cyber Monday?

Cyber Monday Sale promotes a wide range of items with extensive on-site and marketing channel promotion, with a dedicated sale filter page.

Our email campaigns offer promotional opportunities in addition to the Cyber Monday sale. There are fewer items selected which receive a feature in an email and/or dedicated sale filter page that is promoted to engaged customers on our marketplaces. As always, discounted items will be visible on the general sale item filter pages as well.

The great news is that you can nominate your items for both types of campaigns!

Pricing Promotion Rules

Consistent Price: Your item must have been listed at a clear, stable and consistent price to be eligible for inclusion in our campaign. As is always the case, eligibility will be determined by Envato, factoring in a number of different things, including whether your item has been listed and sold at the same price for the 30 days leading up to the promotion period. Note that for this particular campaign, the final promotion period will be set by Envato during the described promotional window, refer to the 5 step campaign process above. Discount Price: By nominating for this promotion you are choosing to set your item’s list price at 30-50% off the stable price it has been listed at. Sale items are rounded down to the nearest dollar after the discount has been applied.

Buyer Fee: The included buyer fee will not change. You can find more information on how to calculate prices with buyer fees here.

Author-Driven Pricing: Under our Author-Driven Pricing rules, as you all know, you are free to change your price whenever you like. However, it’s really important that our buying customers have certainty around pricing and the extent of discounts, particularly on sales campaigns. If you are opting into our sale campaign (by nominating your items with the link above), you’re electing to apply the discount for the specified 7 day duration of the promotion period - and making a commitment to customers to not change discounts or price for that period. Again, for this particular campaign, the final promotion period will be set by Envato during the described promotional window, refer to the 5 step campaign process above. We’ve implemented some tooling to help with this, which does the following for our campaigns:

  • Envato will contact selected authors notifying them of the proposed 7 day campaign period that their item has been allocated to go on sale, at their nominated discount. At this point, authors will have the opportunity to accept or opt-out of the campaign dates proposed;
  • Once the above item selection is complete and relevant authors are notified via email, price changes will no longer be possible until the end of the campaign, unless authors opt-out of the campaign altogether before the campaign period starts;
  • Once the campaign commences, the nominated discount percentage will be automatically applied for the specified promotion period; and to confirm, authors will not be able to change the item price (or cancel their nominated discount) during the campaign.

Of course, you have the option to opt-out of the campaign before it begins by contacting communitymarketing@envato.com or using the Manage Discount tool - just be sure though, because if you select to opt-out, we are unable to return your item into this campaign later on. If part-way through the campaign, you’re affected by serious circumstances that mean you must exit your items from Envato’s campaign, let us know at communitymarketing@envato.com and we’ll do our best to help you. All decisions about whether Envato can or will remove any item from a campaign are final.

Hi there. Three of our items have been included in the campaign and we would like to send out emails to inform our subscribers. Are there any guidelines in terms of design/wording?

Hi @Meks - sorry for the late reply! I’ve just spoken to our Marketing Campaigns staff, and they have confirmed that there are no official guidelines on design or messaging for this campaign. We may add design resources (campaign graphics, etc) in future, similar to what you will see during the Cyber Monday sale - currently we’re just testing out the email-based approach, in order to find what gets the best response from customers.

You’re very welcome to promote the items to your existing customer list, though. The official name of this campaign is Steals of the Week, which will be used in our customer emails.
