I need support to exclude all subcategories from a block filter in newspaper theme

Despite I follow the tutorial and add a - sign in front of the subcategories ID I want to exclude in a multi categories filter from a block it does’t work. Can I exclude as many subcategories I want, which is the proper way to do it?
supossing
ID parent category is 23
and its subcategories are 231 234

23,-231,-234

Should iit works?
