What trends exist now and where to find out?
And about design, what designs are in the trends now?

Thanks for show your interest for make items and upload in themeforest. You can check popular html in themeforest

This days reviewer not approve items easily, I suggest you can contact psd author and convert their design for html

My advice is to hire good psd design team to make you trend new themes and you to convert thenw into joomla or wp.
