Set minimum price threshold, like some other marketplaces. Otherwise, this marketplace might end up in catastrophe.
Looks like admins going to test “wild wild west stock market ” with more jungle freedom - any prices, elements, etc. And only the strongest top authors will survive with huge portfolios or best sellers, who can’t compete will work for penny for a while as much he can or just quit. Prepare…
This really is my biggest concern when it comes to the future of Envato and their market… just take audiojungle for example:
We allready have threads of despair like “your item just got approved” for a few clicks on their items… people following, unfollow and then follow popular authors constantly just to get some visibillity… people spamming “GLWS” (good luck with sales) hoping to get comments back on their work so it can go trending… guys using women pics to attract men… horrible item names like “this Epic” and “A Inspiration” just to name a few.
Sum these up and you see that in a oversaturated Marketplace authors are absolutely desperate for a few sales, it is not hard to imagine what will happen when these authors get to price their own items.
They will kill the Marketplace with horrendous low prices… just you watch.
And another thing to think about… 10 dollars for example is peanuts in some countries, and quite a bit of money in other countries… how can you balance this globally?
I mean… as a taxpaying, buying all software legaly, hardworking author… how are we to survive this? going lower then the rest? no way that’ll work in my opinion.
No it won’t, this change is all about making cheaper items.
Stop that, almost everyone disagrees with that change. It would make all the good authors disappear.
In no time you will end up with low quality stuff and no buyers.
I think AudioJungle is much more competitive and aggressive than ThemeForest or CodeCanyon for example… Also, many people use music only as a really quiet background in videos, and in that case, quality doesn’t matter as much as it matters when you buy software on codecanyon or something similar. Support is also not needed for music, so that also isn’t a factor that would justify the higher price. AudioJungle should have minimum item prices at least as they are now for 1 or 2min+ tracks. (15-19$). If not, I think this will become really bad really fast.
And a big problem that I have seen in recent times, are the reviewers and their approval times or in many cases, of senseless disapproval.
I think reviewers are collapsed with a lot of material and quickly discard work well done, with excuses that are not real or lack an experienced vision.
That for me has been a great deterioration in this platform.
Agree!!
@jamesgiroux I hope that you will make tool for bulk change prices (including resolution filter of course). Changing prices for more than 21.000 (in my case) video files is a job for months.
Joined VideoHive a few months ago. I was blown away how good the pricing was. Reviewers fix the prices and so the quality and price is in balance. But this new change…ruins everything
That’s Great ! Of course with a minimum price set by Envato…i always thought that those huge explainer packs were under priced ! Now we can work on higher quality project and don’t aim to appeal to a broad audience but to a specific nich and still earn a respectful income ! or Maybe Not ! time to try new things
RACE TO THE BOTTOM! HERE IT COMES! IT’S OVER!
Here is why I think this is the worse move Envato ever made.
First of all, just search the ThemeForest group and you will see all the “good” experiences authors are sharing.
95% are saying it’s a BAD move.
Second, I am also an instructor on Udemy (online courses) and in the past I was selling courses with about $50, occasionally $100.
However, Udemy kept making almost weekly offers with 90% OFF, just $10. In the next few weeks zero sales above $20.
Now, 2 years in…NOBODY…I repeat NOBODY sells courses for more than $10.
That’s what will happen to VideoHive. I don’t know if it will be a slow or fast race to the bottom but it will be one.
Mark my words, take a screenshot of this post and you will see. I am not guessing the future, I saw it happen twice.
The worse part is Envato didn’t ask authors and doesn’t do anything to change this considering most are against the move.
They are keeping their FIXED REVENUE. So the only ones getting ****** are us, the authors.
ZERO FAIR PLAY FROM ENVATO. Yes, make ADP (Author Driven Pricing) but keep a % not a fixed fee.
I will say that I’m not crazy about this development, but this was inevitable. The way Adobe and others are creating more and more avenues for customers to buy similar content (and authors to sell it), it was only a matter of time before the race to the bottom began.
While I think that quality on the markets will always win over cheapness, I’m not looking forward to having to price my work and keep an eye on my competitors. But I will wait and see how my sales go in the new paradigm.
awesome for VideoHive, not so awesome for the authors.
If this would have been a fair move, they would have allowed ADP but kept a %.
What they did is keep their earnings and decided that all discounts should come from the author’s pocket.
Wish Envato would spend their time reviewing my uploaded content and fix that broken system before creating a new issue for authors.
I like the idea of controlling the price, however, there must be MINIMAL limits for each category in After effects templates. Can`t sell OPENERS which now are 17$ for 6$ because that will make buyers adapt for looking cheap stuff…
Also I am worried about the new fixed buyer fees…i just hope they dont make % higher…
Ok. Why not? I can adjust an item price depending on the situation. Of course, if the authors simply clone a trend slideshows, which are already hundreds on videohive – it is not profitable for them (dumping etc.). But if the author has unique products, I think that ADP is a good idea. More authors will start coming up with more unique products. The price is almost always not the final decision for buying items on videohive. The quality, support, good user manual in PDF and video tutorials are more important than price.
No one in their right mind will sell After Effects items for $5, having spent for it 2-3 weeks.
So, I think what ADP for videohive is a cool novelty.
In another hand, we have a huge problem with copyright and uncontrolled spread of our items on the web. Authors spend their time to create a good and quality products but after few days after approving they seeing their items on other “websites” distributed for free.
I think it is more important than ADP. Envato should protect their authors against pirating. Maybe protecting zip archive with floating password or something similar. It is a really big problem that affects sales, more than ADP.
Hmm…i’ve tried to think about it a lot before posting.
What i think (regarding AudioJungle at least) is ADP will make problems for generic amateur authors who creates hundreds of clone stamps corporate tracks (and other low value music) and make 2-3 sales from it. If customer is looking for a simple generic corporate track he probably will buy the cheapest one (since they are almost sounds the same anyway) and this will hurt a lot of people no doubt. So we might see reduction of such clone tracks after ADP because it won’t worth it anymore. But if you really will want to earn good money here you will need to improve your skills and create much more quality tracks that will stand out from the crowd and will have the potential to enter “weekly popular” list. If this will happen this should create more competitive situation in this sector. I think we can measure the impact if we’ll see how much sales generates tracks in “popular list” now and after ADP will be implemented. If we’ll see the same numbers that will mean the customers are still buying the quality tracks no matter of their price.
P.S. Lets face it guys - this clone stamps corporate tracks with firebird muted guitar doesn’t even worth a penny! This would be end sooner or later anyway as the bubble collapse. This music clone factory must be stopped.
I’m the one who will suffer too probably. But i’m ready to adept and improve.
You are absolutely right!
This applies to both Audiojungle and Videohive authors.
Good for those who create unique or/and quality items. Good for those who have items in popular page.
Bad for those who copy-paste existing works 100500 times. As long as 90% authors copy each other, nothing surprising that they complain. As for me I like to have more control on my items.
