It might take some getting used to, but it makes perfect sense. Why would the company or the devs want to spend their efforts tracking down bugs in a version of the software that is three versions out of date?
the update mentioned by Todd is for the latest version of After Effects. You pointed out one of the feature promised by Adobe, up to date, fast updates, always in top shape software, but in reality the still use the old system of collecting a big list of bugs, release a update every two to three months.
This off course, is not the development team fault, is the management. Everything cost in a corporate environment, even releasing an update. The problem is the promises they made and how they actually behave, most of the time without people noticing.
