Mm ok, got it! Thought it needed to be hosted in http. Just tested it and it works perfectly! 
Will start using this technique in connection with Creative Cloud; seems to be a very quick workflow.

I think it is still a good idea to use a reliable image hoster (not saying Adobe CC isn’t one, I have actually no experience with them). Envato might drop their method of backing up images sometime in the future or they might update their images with the new result of the original link that might end up with missing images.
