What Road to take to learn High-End Interactive Website Animation?

Hi,

Okay so I used to be a Flash user some time ago, but somewhere between Steve Jobs declaring the death of flash, the UI/UX revolution and Parallax/WordPress overuse and me designing over WordPress templates, I went a stray from creative web design, so now I feel obsolete.

I want to re-embrace my creativity building sites like these:

http://www.numero10.ch/fr/home/

and many of the awarded webstes you could find here: http://www.awwwards.com/

Oh and please don’t give me the “animated websites are not SEO friendly, less interaction is better UX, MobileFriendly first, bla bla bla” speech, I know all that and where and what should I avoid depending on the client and its project. But I’m talking about HIGH VISUAL IMPACT for certain projects.

I’ve tried Adobe Muse but wasn’t what I wanted.

I want to learn how to make awesome websites that stand out with some interaction and movement, not that WordPress trend you see everywhere. Not interested in Wix kinda’ solutions for non-designers either.

So… in short, what road should I take, where and how to start? could you point the way to a course or a set of tutorials?

Thanks a lot in advance for your help!!

Hi @waltman17, great question! If you’re comfortable with HTML and CSS (perhaps JS too) then we recently rounded up 9 Popular Courses on CSS Animation.

This roundup features details and previews for the following courses, available with a Tuts+ subscription:

I hope that provides some inspiration!

@ianyates Thank you so much for your reply! did you put the links in a particular order, or does this list some suggestions as they came to mind?

@waltman17 there’s no strategic order to those links, but if you were to approach them in a logical fashion I’d suggest:

  • The two “Up and Running” courses
  • The bezier functions coffee break course
  • Practical Web Animation
  • The CSS libraries course
  • And only then move onto the JS-based GreenSock and Snap.svg courses

Thanks
