I’m interested in finding out what item in your portfolio you’re most proud of.
It doesn’t have to be your most popular item. It doesn’t have to be your most complex item. But what it should be is something in your portfolio that has a bit of a story. Maybe it was a struggle to create, or went through multiple iterations before it was released. Maybe it was the easiest item you ever created because you just knew what you were trying to do and were inspired.
Whatever it is, provide a link to the item and a short paragraph telling me why you’re so proud of it, and a bit about what it took to create it.
I’ll be using the most interesting of these stories for a series of interviews and articles.
The Item I’m the most proud of is phpDolphin - https://codecanyon.net/item/phpdolphin-social-network-platform/5158794 which is a social network platform built with PHP. It was my first object orientated software and the biggest one I have built. The product taught me a lot and the feedback from the community was awesome which motivated me to constantly update it with new features (2000+ sales, 3+ years of development, 30+ updates). Cheers.
We became an author in 2009 (we are just a company of 2 people - AJ and Kyla) and were very excited to finally start working from home developing WordPress themes full time. In the beginning it was extremely difficult for us to get items accepted and even harder to create a top selling item. Over time we kept pushing through creating new items, learning about design trends, WordPress development, marketing, etc.
In 2013 we submitted our Total WordPress theme and after multiple rejections, countless cans of Red Bull and a few days without sleep we finally got the theme accepted. Total was not an instant top seller and that first week we missed the popular list since it was accepted on a Saturday.
Over the years we improved Total and spent a lot of time marketing it to the point where it finally reached the top 15 WordPress theme sellers. Even today we are working on improving the theme, supporting it and making it better then ever on a daily basis.
It gives us a lot of joy to see the awesome websites people have created with Total - http://www.wpexplorer.com/sites-using-total/- and we’ve met so many awesome people through our customer base! But best of all because of the success of our Total theme we’ve been able to help support ourselves, extended family and friends.
Envato and our Total WordPress theme have really changed our lives and we couldn’t be more grateful! Thank you Envato
https://videohive.net/item/snow/4515938 - easiest to create item. I spend just an hour or so to film and process it. It happend to be the best selling item for me for many month - until Videohive got more similar items from other authors
https://videohive.net/item/rose-petals-heart/13769614 - hardest to create item with a lot of camera filming work, processing, learning how to do scrips and tricky programming in After Effects. Many-many hours spend, I guess I spend few hundred hours during the period of about 2 years and I proud of this item even it has just a few sales as of yet.
Back in the mists of time, around 2010, I came up with the idea of an animation of all the different states of the US coming together. I probably wasn’t the first to come up with the idea, but there was hardly any examples on stock sites at the time.
I made the animation and uploaded to another stock site, and was planning to create an After Effects template for VideoHive. I can’t remember exactly what happened, but I either deleted, lost or damaged the file and I couldn’t be bothered to do it again and mask all the states by hand (copying masks from an existing Illustrator file might have been easier!).
So five or six years later, I decided to do it again. After the success of the US map kit, I then went on to do the world map kit, and a bunch of other country map kits. They’re now making up about about a third of my VideoHive sales.
And the original video was used in House of Cards, so that’s something to tell the grandkids!
I think if you’re always innovating and moving forward, you should always be most proud of your latest item. But I’m especially proud of Flex Mag for its “Auto Load Posts” feature that continuously loads the next post underneath each post as you scroll. I’m also proud of the balance between offering a great number of options, and maintaining a theme that is easy to use and navigate.
I love creating interactive maps and I had a amazing portfolio on activeden since it was called flashden, but at the point I know that Flash is not going to continue, I learnt some coding and read a lot about SVG and created this first interactive map, fortunatly it sold well and I followed it with more maps!
I am proud of my Epic Beat https://audiojungle.net/item/epic-beat/17138539 because of fun fact - when I showed this track some other Audiojunglers they say that it sounded too boring. When it appeared on AJ clients started buying it and even sending me letters on my email with respect. There are only 4 sales now but for me (not popular author) this is the thing to proud of. ))
